Syed Nazakat, India, is an award-winning journalist and Editor-in-Chief
of the Centre for Investigative Journalism. With more than 15 years of
experience across broadcast, print and online journalism, Syed Nazakat has reported from over 20 countries. Prior to his current role, he was special correspondent at India's leading news magazine- The Week. Before that he was based in Bangkok, Thailand with Asia News Network (ANN) as an Assistant News Editor. Nazakat has been the recipient of several accolades in journalism which includes India's prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award, Karmaveer Puraskaar and Christiane Amanpour Award for Religion Journalism. His story on women trafficking from Afghanistan was shortlisted for the Kurt Schork International Award (London, 2013), German Development Media Award (Berlin, 2013) and Bayeux-Calvados Award for War Correspondents (France, 2014). Sysed Nazakat has been instrumental in the setting up of the data journalism initiative focused on Indian healthcare, called Health Analytics India in the year 2015. Nazakat is a fellow at the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. He has taught as a visiting faculty at Convergent Journalism program at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre Delhi and at ACFJ, Manila. He is also heading the Society of Asian Journalists (SAJ).
