CTM being the largest and oldest industrial unit of J & K stands proud member of Birla group.

Establishment
The company was set up at Kathua in 1962 with first foundation stone laid by Late JenabBakshiGhulam Mohammad,
the then Prime Minister of J & K. The mill started production in 1965 with initial capacity of 12600 spindles and
with a man power of 300 workers.

Development
Mr. K.K.Birla, the man behind the textile group. Since the commercial production started in Jan 1965, the mill has
been continuously investing on modernization and expansion of capacities. The mill has capacity of 200000 spindles
as on 31st Dec 2014 producing Synthetic blended: Grey and Dyed yarn, Cotton Dyed and Melange yarn.
In last four decades, the group building its core strengths in textile by widening the product range and moving up the
value addition chain the group diversified its textile activities by undertaking manufacturing of polyster, acrylic and
viscose.
A dye house is also set up with the capacity of dying 3200 Kg of fiber per day but now it is dying 50 60 tons per
day. The company started with three production units and 300 employees, now maintaining 11 production units and
9000 direct employees and 3000 on contract basis.
CTM has created direct employment avenues to over 9000 persons and thousands others indirect employment and
has been contributing to the cause of economic development and creation of environment of industrialization in the
state.

Customer needs
From the very beginning CTM focused on customer need, which laid the foundation for success year after year.
Starting with Cotton yarn and 100% Viscose yarn, CTM diversified into quality synthetic blended yarn in wide
range of dyed shades and now to value added yarn by investing in the most sophisticated machines and technology.

The company is maintaining its thrust in the export market by producing quality yarn. The product of the company
is exported to these countries.

CTM has IS/ISO 9001:2000 accreditation from BIS.


It has also been granted OEKO Tex standard 100 certificates from Shirley Technologies U.K.
CTM has been granted authorization to use GOTS/EKO certified Global Organic Textile Standard and
Organic Exchange certificate from Central Union Certifications from Netherland.
The mill has facility to manufacture yarn from Organic Cotton which is being exported to several countries.
CTM has also been authorized by Uster, Switzerland to use its prestigious Usterised Trade Mark, for its
products.

places. The raw material there is available at cheaper rates and latest technologies are being used in textile.

Work system relating to all departments will be regularly updated with systematic training and involvement of
all concerned.

Production facilities and technology shall be updated continually to meet ever increase quality and product

MANAGEMENT PROFILE
CTM is a part of Sutlej Textiles and Industries Ltd., a Blue Chip Company of the K.K.Birla Group. The
management of the company vests with the Board of Directors comprising eminent, experienced, industrialists
&professionals. Majority of the Directors on the Board are independent.
The Board is headed by Shri. C.S. Nopany, a qualified Chartered Accountant. He also holds Master degree in science
(Industrial Administration) from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA. He is a past President of Indian
Chamber of Commerce and Indian Sugar Mills Association.
The Group of which Sutlej Textiles and Industries Ltd. is a part , encompasses a wide spectrum with interest in
fertilizers , media, Textiles, sugar, shipping, engineering, engineering services, financial services, information
technology , plantations and infrastructure sectors.

A Tribute to Late Dr. K.K. Birla Chairman Emeritus

Industrialist, Parliamentarian, Educationist, Writer, Philanthropist. Above all a humanist.

Dr. Krishna Kumar Birla - Chairman Emeritus, left for his heavenly abode on 30th August, 2008.

Dr. K.K.Birla (Doctor of Letters Honors Causa) was a member of the RajyaSabha for three successive terms
from 1984-2002. He had also served on Board of SBI, ICICI and as a president of FICCI, Indian Chamber of
Commerce, Kolkata, Indian Sugar Mills Association, Sheriff of Kolkata and also member of Mata Vaishnu
Devi Shrine Board. He was trustee of Birla education trust which runs number of Institutions like B.I.T.S. at
Pilani.
