Objective
CO1 : Explain the reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal,
health, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to
professional engineering practice [PO6 , LO5]; {A4}
Instructions
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the concept whereby companies act to
balance their own economic growth with the sustainable social and environmental
development of their areas of operation. Assuming that you have joined a
multinational and market leader company and immediately been appointed as a CSR
head to plan and implement CSR activity for your company (1-3 years planning plan).
As a new leader, you as expected to carry out systematic steps which may include:
1. Research on CSR
You need to clearly understand the principle underlying CSR activities, the benefits
and challenges as well as how other peoples are doing it all over the world.
2. Identify Social Issue/ problem
Based on either local or international issue, suggest at least 5 problem that you think
is worth to work on through CSR program. As far as possible, your CSR should have
measureable impact and sustainable concern to the society preferably associated with
your profession as an Engineer.
3. Planning & Budget
List out all the activities in carry out this CSR program from the initial set-up of the
team, execution, monitoring until measurement of the performance. You may also
involve other related organizations such as NGOs or clubs that willing to work
together for your CSR program. The planning also must include the costing as well as
the source of sponsors other than allocation from your company
4. Communicate and inspire
Come out with innovative and creative idea how to communicate and inspire your coworker as well as the society at large to understand, support and participate in your
CSR program. Examples through social media you tube, face book, Instagram etc.
Assessment
You need to write a comprehensive proposal/business plan that cover but not limited
to the above items as if youre going to present it to your management to get their
consent and approval. (1-3 years planning plan) The assessment of the proposal /
business plan will be based on the following rubric:
