DCR Alcohol Policy
Massachusettss state parks and recreation areas are visited annually by thousands of visitors, including
families, who look to our Department to provide a natural atmosphere, appropriate for outdoor
activities. According to CMR 302 consumption of alcohol is prohibited without a special use permit. In
order to secure an alcohol authorization the DCR requires the permittee to write to the commissioner to
request authorization for use of alcohol in addition to obtaining a special use permit. When the DCR
grants an alcohol authorization the permittee is required to secure the following:
1. Provide liquor liability insurance indemnifying the DCR.
2. Secure a liquor license from the local municipality. (Will specify if only beer and wine will be
served or if other liquor is included)
3. Hire a Police Detail.
4. Ensure that those serving the alcohol are Serve Safe Certified.
It is considered Illegal for any person to possess or consume alcoholic beverages, including beer or wine;
in any State facility-controlled property that is posted with signs specifying that alcohol is prohibited.
Apply for a Beer/Wine Liquor Permit at mass.gov.com and if you have any other questions please feel
free to contact us at 617-626-1520.
