What
How will you engage students in imagining, exploring, and/or experimenting in this lesson?
I will encourage my students to explore all the different authors/illustrators so they feel like they can make an educated
decision on the artist they are going to represent.
The students will have to use their imagination to come up with a story that has a plot, characters, and a theme. They
will also need to be imaginative when they are ready to illustrate their book.
How will this lesson allow for/encourage students to solve problems in divergent ways?
This lesson will allow students to create their own artwork in the way that they seem fit.
They will need to be able to improvise with materials if the materials that they wanted to use are not readily available.
They will have to ask themselves questions like: Are the materials that I want available to have? If not, what else can I
use that will still help me express what I am trying to say through my artwork?
How will you engage students in routinely reflecting on their learning?
Each day, before we begin this project again, I will have my students close their eyes and picture what they want to
accomplish that day. Once they have imagined that, I will have them blow their answer in their hand and on the count
of three, they will all release what they said.
I will also be constantly walking around the room asking questions that are thought provoking. These questions will
allow the students to reflect on what they have already done while also thinking ahead to their final product.
How will you adapt the various aspects of the lesson to differently-abled students?
This lesson could be adjusted for any ability.
The teacher could suggest some well-known books that students may find interesting and also provide some physical
books and resources to help out.
For a child that may not be up to the 2nd or 3rd grade literacy benchmark, the teacher can have the child tell her the
story as the teacher records it for them. This way the student still has full ownership over the final product.
