ABSTRACT

The activity was conductedawareness to conserve the environment by using wasted

bottleas a pencil bottle and mini pot among kindergarten. Research has shown that
plastic waste is a material that can not be reused and unlike glass and metal, recycled
plastics are not able to continually serve the same purpose after recycling. To achieve
this project objective, Practice Based Research methods have been applied through two
major phases. The first phase includes a review of the questionnaire about awareness to
contamination of waste, especially bottles while the second phase, the production process
involves the production of artistic conducted two craft products such as pencils holder
and mini potfrom wasted bottles.
Keywords: awareness,environment, recycle
1. INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, the awareness of nature
conservation among the public is getting
decrease. It is causes the pollution problem is
getting worse by day. One of the factor of the
pollution is from the solid waste. The disposal
of solid waste that is unplanned can cause
many environmental problems such as
environmental pollution, the greenhouse effect
and also natural disasters. The awareness and
understanding
of
the
importance
of
environmental conservation should be educated
since childhood. It is very important so that the
environmental pollution can be reduced from
day to day.
There are many ways to reduce the
pollution problem. The recycle of the solid
waste is one of the method that can be
conducted to reduce the problem of pollution.
Recycling is the easiest and best way to have a
positive impact on the environment and our
life. It is because it can be contributed by each
individual. This project was intended to give an
awareness to the young generation on the
importance of nature conservation. It is also

conducted to give an idea to reduce the

problem of pollution.
2. METHODOLOGY

Table 1 flow chart of project

PHASE 1

Practice Based Research methods have been

applied through two major phases. The first
phase includes a review of the questionnaire
about awareness to contamination of waste,
especially bottles.

QUESTIONNAIRE
PHASE 2
A questionnaire is a research instrument
consisting of a series of questions and other
prompts for the purpose of gathering
information from respondents. Although they
are often designed for statistical analysis of the
responses, this is not always the case.
Questionnaires have advantages over
some other types of surveys in that they are
cheap, do not require as much effort from the
questioner as verbal or telephone surveys, and
often have standardized answers that make it
simple to compile data. However, such
standardized answers may frustrate users.
Questionnaires are also sharply limited by the
fact that respondents must be able to read the
questions and respond to them. And for this
case, we just read it out the question to children
and asked them to hands up for their answer.
Thus, for some demographic groups conducting
a survey by questionnaire may not be concrete.

Second phase is about process involves the

production of artistic conducted two craft
products such as pencils holder and mini pot
from wasted bottles.
STEPS TO CREATE PENCIL HOLDER
I.

Prepare a 500ml of plastic bottle

II.

Cut it into half.

III.

Use the bottom of the bottle as pencil

holder.

IV.

Use color paper to gum it on the bottle

as decoration.

V.

Basic rules for questionnaire item construction

are;

Use statements which are interpreted in the

same way by members of different
subpopulations of the population of
interest.
Use statements where persons that have
different opinions or traits will give
different answers.
Think of having an "open" answer category
after a list of possible answers.
Use only one aspect of the construct you
are interested in per item.
Use positive statements and avoid
negatives or double negatives.
Do not make assumptions about the
respondent.
Use clear and comprehensible wording,
easily understandable for all educational
levels
Use correct spelling, grammar and
punctuation.
Avoid items that contain more than one
question per item
Question should not be biased or even
leading the participant towards an answer.

Lastly, pencil can be putted into it.

STEPS TO CREATE A MINI POT

I.

Use the upper body of the bottle that

had cut just now as a mini pot.

II.

Then use color paper to decorate the

body of bottle.

III.

Stick the bottle to a hard paper to make

it stable.

IV.

Lastly, the bottle is inserted some cotton

to plant the bean

3. RESULTS
Practice Based Research methods have been
applied through two major phases. The first

4. DISCUSSION
The impact of the activities carried out:
Based on the results of survey, we found
that pollution of solid waste disposal can be
said to be at a high level and problematic. After
receiving the results of the discussions, we find
this pollution can be reduced by making the
recycling activities to reduce the pollution of
solid waste. The objective of this program is to
implement ways to reduce solid waste material
consisting of a plastic bottle. This is because
the results of the data obtained show that
majority of children do not aware about these
pollutions and on how they should solve it.
Improvement and pollution reduction can be
seen through analysis of data through surveys
of the public as shown in data attached.
After the program, students' views about
the environment through activities that have
been carried out to show their understanding of
caring for the environment by recycling
discarded goods is high. With the use of
disposable plastic bottles was encourage and
facilitate students' understanding of how to

diversify a scrap with the right methods and

beneficial to the environment.
5. CONCLUSION
In a nutshell, the children can
understand the importance of nature
conservation. The recycling activities help to
extend the life and usefulness of something that
has already served its initial purpose by
producing something that is useable. Recycling
has a lot of benefits and importance not only to
us humans but especially to our planet. The
children will learn how to conserve the earth
with the correct way since they are young.
Small action of everyone can make a big
impact to our planet.
6. SUGGESTIONS
Malaysian drank vast quantities of
bottled water, in part because we have bought
into the idea that it is somehow safer than tap
water. Many of us do not realize, however, that
drinking bottled water takes a toll on the
environment and also has the potential to be
harmful to our health. They are many ways or
activity can be done with plastic water bottles.
In India, there were creative architect who
made a structure like house with just wasted
water bottles. They fill the water bottles with
sand and went through compaction test and it is
suitable to use instead using brick. They made
this world a realization that we can conserve
everything or plastic bottles in good way than
make it as rubbish.
Other than that, in aspect of DIY, there
are many recycling projects with plastic bottles
are always cool, especially when can turn into
something new and useful. One of the DIY
project or activity can be done is vertical
garden. For this we have to cut middle of
plastic bottle and filled with sand and plant
seed. We can also plant varieties of seed and let
it grow; as well we can add some greenery in
our own house too. Besides that, we also can
make broom from plastic bottles. The methods

are very simple and quick. Firstly we have to

cut the water bottle in half and take the upper
part, then cut the circumference of bottle to the
top of cap. Then we have to stick in waste stick
inside the hole and we will have broom.
Furthermore for children, there are
many activity can be done from waste water
bottles. One of the ways is piggy bank for
children. The procedure is safe with guidance
of adult forchildren. Not only piggy bank, we
also can do bottle gun and sail boat for children
play at evening time and for their
entertainment.
Lastly we need to conserve our nature
by our own will to prevent natural disaster, as
our nature can behold the massive effects from
us. So everyone shoulddo their part to conserve
and not waste anything that can harm us.
