and find the key word that represents the central idea.
2. CC.9-10.R.L.3 Key Ideas and Details: Analyze the characters in the story and write
details about their actions in the story.
3. CC.9-10.W.1 Text Types and Purposes: provide arguments to support statements given in
the text and make an analysis of current events in the book.

Major Goals of the lesson plan:

While analyzing the story, students should identify the theme of the story and
examine key words that may lead to the central idea and support evidence.
Observation is needed for students so as to make an analysis of the story. Students

should use visuals and images based on the YouTube source that is provided.
Identify the setting of the story and what issue is being presented in the story.
Describe what you see in the visuals provided in the book and provide details of
the pictures.

Nature of the plan:


a. What is the main theme and describe how it is involved in the story and express
your ideas.
b. The major nature to be covered in the story is discrimination and prejudice,
describe what you see in the pictures and write what you think.

Student Capabilities and Needs.

a. Students will have to Organize writing, edit, proof-read, revise and summarize the
story. Students will use PowerPoint, internet, iPad and share information with
other students. Technology tools is required to complete the requirements.
b. Students will need to have critical thinking skills, analytical skills to comprehend
the text, visuals and information from the text. Additional material such as books,

a. Reading strategies in this unit encompasses: critical thinking, observing,
organizing, editing and proof-reading and sharing information. Comprehension
and analysis is needed for this lesson plan.

learning and group work. There will be visual learning, audio and kinesthetic
opportunities.
c. The writing task requires students to organize ideas, edit, submit rough-drafts,

a. Formative assessment
i.
Students must send an e-mail to confirm the comprehension of the text
post two blogs and provide their opinions, respond to one blog and discuss
about the story.
ii.
Students will be graded fairly based on the grading rubric.
iii.
A sample essay will be provided to support learning and achievement.
b. Summative Evaluation.
i.
There will be two summative assessments. The first will be a summative
evaluation and a final exam. The first will be based on reading
comprehension, critical thinking and analysis. The second assessment will
be graded on the notion of persuasion, logic, reasoning and providing
facts, evidence to support work.
c. Original Rubric:

The rubric to be used for reading will be based on content,


comprehension and knowledge. Writing will be assessed on
Organization, structure, key ideas, examples and summary.

Technology requirements:
a. Students will use iPad, computers and YouTube videos to analyze the story.
b. Students should create an infographic about the theme of the story and create
ten blocks of visual images.
c. Students are required to use easelly.com or picktochart to share information
and animations about the story.
d. Students should include an answer sheet for each questions.
e. After watching the video students must create a circle and describe what they
