GENERAL

a)

This specification covers the minimum requirements for the design, fabrication, testing and
supply of insulating joint kits.

b)

The insulating joint kit offered shall be complete with:

a)

The insulating joint kit consisting of stud bolts, nuts, steel washers, insulating
washers, bolt sleeves and gasket shall be suitable for 150 NB, Class 300 WNRF
flanges as per ANSI B 16.5
The material. of the insulating parts shall be suitable for dry and very humid
atmosphere and resistant to hydro carbon services,. upto a temperature of 100 Deg.
C at the required bearing pressure. The insulating gasket and washers shall be
3mm (minimum) thick. The insulating sleeves shall be 1 mm (minimum) thick
and manufactured to close tolerances to fit the annulus between stud bolts and
flange bolt holes. The bolt size shall be specified in the applicable flange
specification.

Test and Inspection

a)

Dielectric Test and Megger Test

Each insulating joint kit shall be megger tested with 1000 V DC. Minimum
resistance shall be 60 megohms. Resistance test shall be performed between the
bolts and the flange. Each insulating joint shall also be dielectric tested at 5000 V

b)

Visual inspection and Dimensional check

Visual inspection of all parts prior to assembly of the insulating joint shall be done
by the vendor. Visual inspection of the finished insulating joint is to be carried
out by the buyers representative. General appearance shall show good
workmanship. All dimensions of the insulating joint shall be checked against the
specification, purchase order description/approved vendor drawings.

Documents to be supplied

6 sets of specifications of the insulation joint kit offered along with detailed
dimensional drawing indicating material of construction of each part. Dielectric
properties of the insulating materials shall also be indicated.
