Rhetorical knowledge

The purpose of this paragraph was to find the rhetorical situation that best fit the
commercial we had to watch. The audience was to the teacher and the genre was informational.
The topic was about the commercial on Mac and PC differences. The next piece I used was the
first paragraph of my Get Real essay. The purpose of this essay was to inform about authenticity.
The audience was the teacher and the class. The genre was a more serious informational piece
and the topic was about authenticity. These two are different because one is a paragraph about
finding the rhetorical situation in a commercial and the other is an intro to an essay about
authenticity.

Critical reading

For critical reading, I uploaded a screenshot of Ballengers intro and my response to


research vs. inquiry papers. After reading this I had a better understanding of what inquiry papers
were. I used critical reading by reading slowly through the piece and analyzing what was being
said. This helped me understand the main differences between inquiry papers and research
papers. Because of my understanding of this paper, I was able to write an inquiry paper and
understand how they were similar and different than research papers.

Knowledge of conventions

In my first screenshot I used a part of the BS essay we wrote at the beginning of the year. In this
screenshot I used commas and periods. One sentence in particular I definitely BS things at
home like washing dishes, cleaning my room, and other small things like that, everyone does it.
I think the use of commas for a list in this sentence conveys my message about all the things in
my life that I tend to BS. The second screenshot was a question in my inquiry essay; I added this
question in my opening paragraph because I was asking if it was still worth attending college. I
think this question in my paper made people wonder to themselves about what was going to
come in the paper and made them think to themselves if it was still worth it to go to college. My
third screenshot was my self analysis for my inquiry, I think I used proper punctuation and
grammar. I used I for my self analysis and think it was a proper analysis.

Composing processes

In these two screenshots, I used the same paragraph from my rough draft and final draft of my
Get Curious essay. In the final draft I added a more personal touch by talking about my family
and my two cousins that dropped out of college. I was given this suggestion by a classmate who
was revising my paper and thought it was a good part to add about my personal experience with
people who dropped out of college and how it has affected their lives. I think this really helped
with the quality of the paragraph because inquiries are more personal than research papers.
Critical reflection

This screenshot is from my midterm reflection, in this reflection I addressed how en plein air
writing was something I have never done before and how it changed the way I write because it

made me realize that I need to be more descriptive. I know my writing has improved since the
beginning of the semester and I think the exercise from going to the Union helped me a lot to
realize that I needed to add more descriptive words to my papers. I also think that because most
of our assignments were not formal writing that it did not stress me out as much; because of this
I did not procrastinate as much for my writings.
Creative writing

I used my en plein air writing assignment for this screenshot. I think the most creative sentence
in this paragraph was, The Student Union at 1 pm on Monday, September 12th provides a
relaxed environment for people to eat, study, or catch up with friends. I think this assignment
helped me to be more creative in my writing because we had to use descriptive words and
writing down all of our senses while we were sitting in the Union was something that really
helped me to be more creative.
