Learning Activities: o Warm-Up: Shoot around in groups at baskets. o Overview of the history of basketball/rules o Explanation of 5 on 5 basketball o Discussion of the importance of teamwork o Explanation of the basic skills of basketball o Pre-test of basketball skills o Closure- review of the rules of basketball, Q & A Use of Technology: o INSTRUCTION: A projector to show slideshow of rules and regulations of basketball (Show clips of the legends of basketball). o ASSESSMENT: The app Coachs Eye to record students, and review and assess individual skill levels. Email to students, so they know what to work on for next class.

Around the head, waist and ankles (ball handling) ! Bounce Pass (passing) ! Chest Pass (Passing) ! Non/Dominate side (ball handling) ! Overhead pass (passing) o Ensure that students are not looking at the ground when dribbling, and making eye contact when passing o Closure- review types of ball handling, demonstrate dribbling and passing, Q & A Use of Technology: o ORGANIZATION: The app Team Shake to put students into a groups for their stations for the day
o INSTRUCTION: QR codes at each station so the students can watch
a video of each ball handling skill. (Provide tablet or allow students to use their individual devices) Day 3 Lesson Focus: Shooting a basketball Objectives: o 1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of shooting a basketball o 2. Students will be able to perform the skill of shooting a basketball Learning Activities: o Warm-up: Keep away, ball handling game o Review the types of ball handling, passing, and rules o Explanation of shooting a basketball and shot selection o Stations ! Lay-up ! Free throw ! Poly spot shots o Ensure students are using dominant hand when releasing shots. (Use ribbon if necessary. o Closure- half court derby and review of shot selection, Q & A Use of Technology: o ASSESSMENT: Use iPad to record students shot form to determine if they are maintaining a proper form when shooting the basketball. o COMMUNICATION: Send students their individual clips via email with a Snap Guide link on shooting skills. ! Snap Guide allows teachers to share how to videos, along with clips of individual students progress. Day 4 Lesson Focus: Offense and Defense Objectives: o 1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of offense and defense used in basketball o 2. Students will be able to perform different aspects of offense and defense in basketball situations Learning Activities: o Warm-Up: H-O-R-S-E (in groups of 4-5 at each basket) o Review of ball handling and shooting o Overview of offense and defense o Stations ! Triple threat (offense/defense) ! Footwork cone drills (offense/ defense) ! Rebounding (offense/defense) ! Blocking (defense) ! Tablets with loaded Google Form (Quiz for rest station) o Closure- class game of Knock-Out, overview of rules, Q&A Use of Technology:
o ASSESSMENT: Google Form; create a quiz based on the concepts/rules
of basketball, to test student knowledge. o ORGANIZATION: Have student results organized in a spreadsheet (can be printed out or emailed), to show where they excel or might want to review before the next class. (Split into: rules, ball handling, offense and defense) Day 5 Lesson Focus: Final Skills Test/ Basketball Games Objectives: o 1. Students will demonstrate an overall knowledge of the game of basketball o 2. Students will be able to perform all previously taught skills from the basketball unit Learning Activities: o Warm-Up: Pass-dribble-shoot-score (basketball with only passing) o Quick review of the rules of basketball o First group starts skills test ! Test of shooting, passing, and ball handling skills (given points per skill level) o Stations (stations aside from testing station) ! Knock-Out ! Around the world ! Dribble Mania ! 3-on-3 o Closure- Issue rewards for students with highest skills test results; issue rewards to everyone else; discuss the importance of teamwork, Q&A Use of Technology: o ORGANIZATION: The app Music Workout, so students know when to switch stations (Music stops and starts when stations end/ need to be switched). o COMMUNICATION: Digital photography, capture images of students to share with parents via email.
