Configuration Overview
Background
1. Composed of call control, media encoding, management control and network security protocols, H.323 is a real-time multimedia protocol cluster developed by ITU-T.
2. H.323 applies in multi-media telecommunication in grouping
network without QoS guarantee. Its purpose is to realize the
video/audio interaction and telecommunication between terminals located in varied networks.
3. H.323 defines several system components, including gateway,
gatekeeper, multipoint control, multipoint processing and multipoint CPU.
4. H.323 terminal provides selective audio/video and data communication in point to point or point to multi-point conference.
Figure 1 shows the location of an H.323 GK device in NGN architecture. It supports various multimedia services and helps realize
IP telephone service. H.323 terminals can also communicate with
H.324, H.320, H.321, H.322 terminals and other wireless devices
in a circuit switching network.

Both H.323 and SIP can realize VoIP and multi-media applications,
but they differ in system architecture, application domain and development direction.
So far, H.323 and SIP are the main standards for IP network communication, which provides complete solutions for an IP telephone
system. But H.323 adopts traditional telephone signaling mode,
including a series of protocols while SIP refers to internet protocol
based on text protocol.

Relations
Caution:
Add DAS (digital analysis selector) for gateway cluster selection
before configuring interconnection data.
Location of H.323 GK interconnection data configuration in overall
configuration flow is shown in Figure 2.
H.323 Principle
Support signaling and control function, which means supporting H.245, H.225 and RAS.
Support real-time communication, which means supporting
RTP/RCTP.
Support encoding, which refers to compression before
sending and decompression after receiving. Each H.323
terminal needs to support Q.711.
H.323 adopts following paths to make information exchange structured for 2 telecommunication entities. Path refers to a connection
of a transmission layer.
RAS path
Defined in H.225.0, RAS path helps endpoints communicate
with their gatekeeper. Endpoint users can log in gatekeeper by
RAS path and request allowing them to have calls with another
