GUIDE LINES FOR TEACHING


The faculty of Mechanical Engineering are advised to strictly adhere to the following guidelines
for effective teaching, administration and progress of the department.
1. Course file of previous semester/year (if you are applicable) should be handed over to the
department before commencement of the present semester/year classwork.
2. Attendance registers of previous semester/year should be handed over to the department
before commencement of classwork.
3. Answer scripts of previous mid/lab should be submitted before commencement of classwork.
4. Everyday morning, the Faculty should be available in the Department at least 5 minutes
before the commencement of classes and should leave the the Department not earlier than
10 minutes of the closer time of the college.
5. Signing in the attendance register maintained in the department soon after coming in the
morning as well as before leaving the college at closure without fail.
6. The Faculty Member should always first interact with HOD and get the days assignment and
get the HOD in confidence about his professional and academic activities in the Department.
7. Faculty are expected to follow the rules and regulations of the Institution as prevalent from
time to time.
8. Faculty Members are expected to update their knowledge by attending seminars/workshops/conference,
by obtaining prior permissions from the HOD and Principal/Management.
9. Faculty Members should attempt to publish text books, research papers in reputed International / Indian Journals / Conferences.
10. The Faculty Member must strive to prepare himself/ herself academically to meet all the
challenges and requirements in the methodology of teaching so that the input may be useful
for the student community at large.
11. Every Faculty Member is expected to extend his/her beneficial influence in building up
the personality of students and he/she should associate himself/herself actively with such
extra-curricular activities which he / she is interested in or assigned to him/her from time
to time.
12. Groupism of any kind should be absolutely avoided. Faculty Members found indulging in
such activities will be subject to discipline proceedings.
13. Faculty among themselves or with students in group should not make long talk in the
corridors while blocking it.
14. Faculty should never enquire about the performance of other faculty with the students.
15. The teaching load will be allotted by the HOD after taking into account the faculty Member
interests and faculty shouldnt question HOD or other in teaching load allotment.

16. For performance evaluation Teaching in the class/lab is having 50% weightage in performance
evaluation and the remaining is based on his inclination in building the department and its
progress.
17. In addition to the teaching, the Faculty Member should take additional responsibilities as
assigned by HOD / Principal in academic, administrative/research/co-curricular or extra
curricular activities.
18. Every Faculty Member must give seminar on his interested areas frequently to the department
faculty.
19. Every Faculty Member should maintain students attendance records and the absentees roll
number should be noted everyday in the daily report register maintained in the Department
as soon as the classes/laboratory hours are over.
20. Whenever a Faculty Member intends to take leave, the Faculty Member should get the
leave sanctioned in advance and with proper alternate arrangements made for class / lab /
invigilation. In case of emergency, the HOD or the next senior faculty must be informed
with appropriate alternate arrangements suggested.
21. The Faculty Member should make himself / herself presentable. The Faculty Member
should show no partiality to any segment / individual student.
22. The class I/C must update the students personal file regularly and put up for inspection by
HOD/Principal as the case may be.
23. Once the subject is allotted the Faculty Member should prepare the lecture hour wise lesson
plan as per the time table.
24. The Faculty Member should get the lesson plan and course file - approved by HOD and
Principal before the commencement of the classwork.
25. The course file consists of preface, previous year university question papers, notes, hand
outs, OHP sheets, test/exam question papers, two model answer scripts for each test/exam,
Assignments (if any), minute paper, feed back analysis report etc.
26. The Faculty Member should go to the class at least 5 minutes before and enter the class
without delay when the bell rings.
27. Timely presence in the class with attendance register, course file, chalk and duster.
28. Engaging the class effectively for the full period of 50 minutes.
29. The Faculty Member ideally should recapture for first 5 minutes the lessons of the last
lecture, tell what is going to learn in another 2 minutes, then explain the lecture well up to
40 minutes and in the last 3 minutes conclude and say what we will see in the next class.
30. The Faculty of Member should cultivate to include humour in the lecture, to break the
monotony.
31. Shouldnt leave the class without handing over the responsibility to either next faculty or
class I/C.
32. Should practice/rehearse the lecture well before going to the class.

33. The Faculty Member should make use of OHP, Models etc., as teaching aids.
34. The Faculty Member should encourage students asking doubts / questions.
35. The Faculty Member should get the feed back from students and act / adjust the teaching
methodology appropriately.
36. The Faculty Member should take care of academically backwards students and pay special
attention to their needs in special classes.
37. In problem oriented subject, regular tutorials have to be conducted. The Tutorial problems
have to be handed over to the students at least in week in advance of actual class.
38. The Faculty Member should interact with the class coordinator or counselor and inform him
/ her about the habitual absentees, academically backward student, objectionable behavior
etc.
39. The Faculty Member should always aim for 100% pass results in his / her subjects and
work accordingly.
40. The Faculty member should regularly visit library and read the latest journals / magazines
in his / her specialty and keep oneself abreast of latest advancements.
41. The Faculty Member should make himself/ herself available for doubt clearance.
42. The Faculty Member should motivate the students and bring out the creativity / originality
in the students.
43. The Faculty Member going for laboratory class must perform the experiments personally
and be satisfied with the results before asking the students to conduct the experiments.
44. Whenever possible, additional experiments to clarify or enlighten the students must be
given.
45. The lab observations/records must be corrected then and there or at least by next class.
Test / Exam
46. The award list prepared within three days of exam should show to the HOD/Director/Dean
for approval and submit the same to the examination section
47. One copy of award list must be filed in the department.
48. The faculty member should be very fair and impartial in awarding of internal marks to
students or in selecting the outstanding students of the department / college and on similar
occasions, it should be done strictly as per the prescribed norms. It should not have any
bearing with region, language, religion, caste, status of parents, personal relations, etc.
49. The Faculty Member should have a good control of students.
50. As soon as the Faculty Member enters the class, He / She should take attendance.
51. If anybody enters late, the student may be permitted to attend the class but marked absent.
In case of repeaters or habitual late-comers the teacher should try to correct the student
through personal counseling and if it does not being any change the student must be directed
to meet the class coordinator, HOD.

52. The Faculty Member should act with tact and deal with insubordination by students
maturely.
53. The Faculty Member should be strict but not harsh. Never use harsh words, which would
hurt the feeling of students.
54. Strictly restricted of coming to the college wearing T shirts and jeans paint. Wearing formal
dress with shoes and tucked in shirt is recommended.
55. Wearing the ID card all the time in the college is essential.
56. Should maintain contact numbers of all faculty and contact the concerned next faculty for
delay if any and then only hand over the class to class I/C.
57. Regular carry of attendance register into the class.
58. Faculty should be available a couple of minutes before the starting of assigned period.
59. Not to carry cell phone into the class
60. Talking on cell phone in the class will be considered as very serious issue and initiated for
necessary disciplinary action.
61. Construction of proper course file, well in advance of the commencement of class work.
62. Carrying latest time table copy in his pocket.
63. Always coming to the class with through preparation for delivering the content for full
period.
64. Not to teach directly from text book and should always carry his well prepared notes/course
file to use in the class.
65. Name list in the attendance register should only be as per the roll list received from the
examination section.
66. Student attendance should never be taken in slips.
67. Taking student attendance in attendance register in the same class itself.
68. No addition of readmission students without approval letter from exam section/principal/
administrative office.
69. Up to date maintenance of attendance register and should be ready for inspection at any
time.
70. Maintaining the attendance register up to date, completed with course plan, classes held,
syllabus coverage, internal marks and also record of classes not held wit reasons.
71. Submission of mid question papers well in advance.
72. The invigilation/examination duty is the priority one than that of class work if it clashes.
73. Collection and correction of mid papers within three days from the day of exam.
74. Showing answer scripts to the students and correction if any for the students for their better
performance.

75. Submission of corrected answer scripts to the examination section after proper entry of
marks.
76. Correction of answer scripts in time by strictly following prescribed guide lines of the
institution and/ or university.
77. Proper evaluation and posting marks in the attendance register and in the standard format
prescribed for it.
78. Question paper standard should be made in such a way that 60% of class should be in a
position to score 60% marks.
79. The evaluation of answer scripts for mid and lab examinations should such that the average
mark of the class should not be less than 60%. If not the department may sought for
explanation from the concerned faculty.
80. Submission of award list for theory and labs to the examination section in association with
Attendance and Marks I/C.
81. Attending for all invigilation duties and necessary support for smooth conduct of all
examinations.
82. Proper intimation and approval for any absents from invigilation duties from examination
I/C
83. All leaves should be applied well in advance and get it approved from both HOD and
Principal.
84. While applying for leave should find suitable alternative and handover the responsibilities
to them.
85. The faculty on leave has to see that his classes are engaged by the alternative faculty signed
and for any mis-communication and for not engaged the class is sole responsibility of the
faculty on leave.
86. Monthly one/two leave permitions on phone may be considered and if not recommended for
LOP along with issue of so-cause letter for explanation.
87. Result analysis report should be prepared for the subject(s) taught, once the results are
declared.
88. Necessary alternatives for class should be made while applying for leave.
89. Effective power usage by switching off immediately fans and lights noticed running unnecessarily in the premises, class rooms, labs, staff rooms for example.
90. Proper maintenance of your seating chair, table, stationary, desks, racks, computer system
etc.
91. Proper rearrangement of furniture in staff room, DOD cabin leaving from it.
92. Effective and minimum usage of all types of stationary for preserving the natural resources.
93. Work load should never be less than the prescribed and brought to the notice of HOD for
adequate workload.

94. Should involve actively in organizing all types of workshops, seminars, conferences etc.
95. Should always work for improving API score by writing papers and attending conferences,
workshops, etc.
96. Working for organizing symposium and conferences in order to demonstrate state-of-theart-technologies in his interesting/specialized areas.
97. Maintaining cordial relations with faculty of the department and other departments.
98. Faculty should be either in the class, Lab or in his allotted chair for student accessibility. He
should not leave to other places in college hours except lunch period without the knowledge
of HOD.
99. Faculty should not use staff room/cabin for playing songs, videos and for slumbering. If it
found, recommend for necessary disciplinary action.
100. Going to the canteen is only when you are free or for relaxation due to overload but not at
the cost of class/lab or assigned work by the HOD/Principal.
101. Internet should only be used for limited period for urgent mails or for referring useful
technical information.
102. Computer system/internet should not be used for entertainment like movies, face books for
example. If it is noticed can be recommended for appropriate action.
103. Faculty appointed for observer/ examiner on JNTU/Principal orders must be brought to
the notice of HOD and prior permission should be obtained by handover of the academic
responsibilities to other concerned faculty and approval for the same from HOD.
104. JNTU orders received from examination section for paper valuation if any, should brought
to the notice of HOD and permission only granted from the department after class work is
properly adjusted by necessary alternative arrangement.
105. Faculty behavior with students should be humble and promote cordial relations between
faculty and student community.
106. Faculty should never use low level language or abusive language ( ami ra, po ra, buddiledura,
etc) with students or co-faculty.
107. Faculty should never incline towards cast, community, creed and sex of student in assessment
and awarding of mark.
108. Faculty should not enter into disrespectable nature like quarrels or fights with students or
co-faculty.
109. Proper respect towards lady faculty is essential in the department.
110. Willing to take responsibility to work as coordinator for department/institution works as
per the instructions from HOD/principal.
111. Performing of other responsibility in addition to teaching; examination coordinator or
placement coordinator or any other for example.
112. Following the instructions of class i/c and maintaining cordial relations for smooth engagement of classes.

113. Proper handover of responsibilities upon resignation and for reliving from services.
114. He has to submit attendance register completed as on date, marks reports, lab files, and
special responsibilities etc to the HOD or HOD assigned faculty member.
115. Any other instructions received from HOD/Principal from time to time.
116. No faculty should shift chairs, tables or other furniture from one lab to another lab without
the knowledge and necessary permission from the HOD/Principal.
117. Know your students names and use their names as often as possible.
118. Plan for every class; never try to wing it.
119. Pay attention to the strengths and limitations of each of your students. Reward their
strengths and strengthen their weaknesses.
120. If possible, set your room in a U-shape to encourage interaction among students.
121. Vary your instructional strategies; use lectures, demonstrations, discussions, case studies,
groups, and more.
122. Review the learning objectives with your students. Be sure students know what they are
expected to learn, do, know, etc.
123. Move around the room as you teach.
124. Make your classes relevant. Be sure students see how the content relates to them and the
world around them.
125. Be expressive. Smile.
126. Put some excitement into your speech; vary your pitch, volume and rate.
127. Give lots of examples.
128. Encourage students to share their ideas and comments, even if they are incorrect. Youll
never know what students dont understand unless you ask them.
129. Maintain eye contact and move toward your students as you interact with them. Nod your
head to show that you are listening to them.
130. Provide opportunities for students to speak to the class.
131. Be available before class starts, during break, and after class to visit with students.
132. Return assignments and tests to students as soon as reasonably possible. Provide constructive
feedback.
133. Be consistent in your treatment of students. Make sure that your exams are current, valid,
and reliable. Tie your assessment to your course objectives.
134. Involve your students in your teaching. Ask for feedback.
