Stages of the lesson

Warm up/ Review (10) The teacher checks up the homework the students had (ex 3,4/ page
6). In order to review the previous lesson, the teacher asks the students what is the difference
between present simple and continuous. Some students are invited at the board to do an exercise
with these tenses.
As a warm up, the students are asked to discuss the questions from exercise 5, page 6 in pairs.
After three minutes, the teacher elicits the answers from several pairs.
Introduction (5) The teacher tells the students that in the new lesson they will learn how to
form nouns and adjectives. The students look at exercise 1, page 7 and they say if the highlighted
words are nouns or adjectives.
Presentation (10) The teacher writes the word family on the board and asks the students if it
is a noun or adjective means. The teacher asks them to give the noun and adjective forms of this
word. Then, the students form sentences with these words so that they can see how they work in
context.
The teacher makes a table on the board and the students complete it with the words from
exercise 1. Then, the students do exercise 2, page 7. They have to say if the words are nouns or
adjectives and to write them in the table. Then, they complete the table with the missing nouns
and adjectives.
Practice (15) The students complete the text from exercise 4, page 7 with the words from the
table. They have to choose between the noun and the adjective. The teacher checks the answers.

The students discuss the picture with the Thames Barrier from page 8. As a follow-up,
ask them if they know of any other buildings which have an interesting or unusual design (e.g.
the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the Sydney Opera House, etc.). Encourage them to try to
describe them to the rest of the class.
Students work individually to decide which word goes in which gap, before checking
their answers with their partner (ex 2, page 8).
At ex 3/ page 8, students discuss the questions in small groups. The teacher asks them
about the most interesting building they have visited.
Evaluation (5)- The teacher gives students their homework which consists of making sentences
with 5 of the nouns and 5 of the adjectives that they learnt in this lesson. The teacher rewards the
active students with praises and pluses.
