SALLOX C200 NF
PRE-MIXED TIN SULPHATE AND ADDITIVE SOLUTION FOR
ELECTROCOLOURING

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A pre-mixed tin sulphate and additive solution developed to facilitate improved management of the
tin electrocolouring process.
ADVANTAGES
The pre-mixed solution contains the correct ratio of tin sulphate and additive thus allowing
accurate adjustments and greater stability of the bath solution.
SALLOX C200 NF avoids the problem of tin powder dissolution.
Easy handling and storage.
Direct addition of SALLOX C200 NF allows the adjustment of both tin and the additive to be
achieved.
OPTIMUM OPERATING CONDITIONS
SALLOX C 200 NF
Sulphuric acid
Temperature

72 - 120 g/l
20 g/l
22 C

96 g/l

CONSUMPTION
Allowing an average drag out the consumption of SALLOX C200 NF will be approximately 30
grams for each square meter of aluminium processed.
SOLUTION PREPARATION AND INSTALLATION
Thoroughly clean and rinse both the tank and electrodes;
Partially fill the tank (approximately 30%) with demineralized water;
Add:
- first 16 g/l of sulphuric acid
- then 25 g/l of SALMIX NF40
- then 96 g/l of SALLOX C200 NF
Mix thoroughly to ensure a good homogeneous solution is achieved;
Top up tank to operating level with demineralised water and mix (stirring) thoroughly;
Ensure solution temperature is within the range 20 to 25 C;
Analyse the solution to ensure the operating concentration range has been achieved. The solution
is now ready for use.

Note: The use of SALMIX NF40 is necessary for the make-up of new solutions. During the
normal use small additions of SALMIX NF40 may be required.

Determination of SALLOX C200 NF concentration

REAGENTS REQUIRED

Concentrated hydrochloric acid

Iodine 0.1 N solution
Starch solution (indicator)
Marble chips

METHOD

Measure 100 ml of distilled water and pour into a beaker.

Add 10 ml of hydrochloric acid by graduated pipette.
Add some pieces of marble.
Add 10 ml of bath solution by graduated pipette.
Add 2 ml of starch solution as indicator.
Titrate with iodine solution until the solution changes to blue.
Record quantity of titrate used as "A".

CALCULATION
A

6.44 = g/l of SALLOX C200 NF

Note: SALLOX C200 NF concentration should be 96 g/l.

SULPHURIC ACID CONCENTRATION

REAGENTS REQUIRED
Sodium hydroxide 1N solution.
Distilled water.
Note: Sulphuric acid is treated with sodium hydrate solution to pH 2.1. For the following method a
pH meter with a sensitivity of 0.1 unity is required. Prior to titrating the pH meter must be adjusted
to pH 2.0 with the appropriate buffer solution. During titration it is necessary to stir the solution
with either a magnetic stirrer or a glass rod.
METHOD
In a 400 ml beaker pour 100 ml of distilled water.
Add with a graduated pipette 50 ml of bath solution.
Stirring the solution titrate with sodium hydrate 1N solution up to pH=2.1.
Titration consumption record as "B" ml.

HANDLING : HEALTH AND SAFETY

Ingestion and direct contact with eyes and skin can be harmful any splashes should be washed off
with clean water and if ingested, seek medical advice. As with all chemicals care must be exercised
during handling and it is recommended that protective clothing, full-face shield and rubber gloves
are worn.

STORAGE
SALLOX C200 NF container should be kept tightly closed and it is good management practice to
store all chemicals in a locked weatherproof area to control access of unauthorised persons and to
provide protection from the elements.
