Why is voting a big deal?
What happens on Election Day?

Students responses will be collected to assess student knowledge.

Students might think that in a real election they can vote when in reality you have
to be 18 years of age.
Students might think anyone can vote when in reality only U.S citizens can vote.
Students might think anyone can be president when in reality there are certain
rules and qualities one must have to be president.

Voting is an important part of every United States American citizen.
If applicable, how does this lesson connect to/reflect the local community?
Voter engagement is a critical part of nonprofit work because it not only empowers the
people and the communities we serve, but it also helps us further our missions.
Voter engagement makes our nonprofits relevant both during and after elections, helping
to make us part of critical public policy discussions and allowing us to weigh in on our
issues. Voting is associated with better health outcomes, cohesive communities, more
effective advocacy, and more.

writing. May receive additional time to work on assignments. I will emphasize and
define complex vocabulary form the texts. May use dictionary and translator if
needed. Will work on small group with teacher.
Students AL and PR: wear glasses, will be seated in front of the classroom.
Students may use assistive technology and have break times
I have 4 low learners (AL, SP, SH, BR) which will be working with me personally on
small group during writing and independent work time
For other activities (AL, SP, SH, BR) will be paired up with on level and above level
students.
