Essential Question: Why is voting such an important aspect of citizenship?
Why is it important?......
Voter engagement is a critical part of nonprofit work because it not only empowers the
people and the communities we serve, but it also helps us further our missions.
Voter engagement makes our nonprofits relevant both during and after elections, helping
to make us part of critical public policy discussions and allowing us to weigh in on our
issues. Voting is associated with better health outcomes, cohesive communities, more
effective advocacy, and more.

Students need to know what a president is.

Students need to know how to communicate effectively.
Students need to know how to properly write to describe, explain, and persuade.

I will ensure students have this previous knowledge by engaging in a discussion.

By doing so I can assess what students know and what they still need clarification
on.
My learners are a group of diverse students who are at different levels and come
from different ethnic backgrounds.
I know that each of my students have different learning styles and need
accommodation based on their individual needs.
I feel my students are ready for this content according to their previous
background knowledge.

a student struggles with the content?

By assessing student knowledge I will be aware if students are struggling with the
content. If students struggle with the content I will pull small groups based on students
needs. I will have reviews of the content and engage students in discussions.

What will you do if

a student masters the content quickly?

By assessing student knowledge I will be aware if students grasp the concept quickly. If
so, we can take it a step further and have students form a debate in the classroom where
they have to explain and justify their reason of choice on a presidential candidate. We will
also have more elaborate, critical thinking discussions.
