Tips to prepare for

JEE Main:
1. Believe in Yourself
If you are appearing for JEE Main this year, then before anything else, have
faith in yourself and hard work. Be positive and let your mind understand
that if you can dream it, then you can definitely achieve it with your sincere efforts. Gail Devers, a three-time Olympic champion for the US Olympic
Team, once said, Keep your dreams alive. Understand, to achieve anything
requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and
dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. Coaching experts also suggest JEE Main aspirants to keep their motivation level
high. Mr. Ramesh Batlish, who is the Center Head- FIITJEE (Noida center),
says, Stay calm, confident and trust yourself. Relax or indulge in meditation
a day before the actual exam in order to give your best on the exam day. Say
to yourself daily till the exam day- I am excited about JEE Main and I can
crack it easily. This enthusiasm and positivity will surely bring better results.
Having unnecessary tension will do no good.

2. Prepare a Timetable
You should prepare a timetable for JEE Main Preparation. One can excel in JEE
Main and secure a seat in one of the best IITs, provided sincere and dedicated
efforts are put towards achieving this goal. JEE aspirant must plan properly
about various aspects of preparation. You should make a timetable to devote
time to each subject as per your weaknesses and strengths. Coaching experts
believe that having a proper timetable proves to be very helpful for the students. Shailendra Maheshwari, Director- Career Point, says, Work according
to a time table. It is better to have a plan than not to have any at all. A wellplanned timetable will help in strategizing your preparation in the right direction.
Mr. Aakash Chaudhry, Director, Aakash Educational Services, suggests students to complete their syllabus by January. Aspirants should try to finish the
syllabus by January, especially fresher. As the remaining time is less, practice
a little more, he opines.
Pramod Vakacharla, who was JEE Main Highest Scorer in 2014, outsmarted
over 13 lakh candidates, who took the exam. Revealing his JEE Main preparation time table he says, I dedicated around 11 hours daily on studies. I spent
4 hours on my daily classes and rest 7 hours on self-study.
Toppers and experts are also of the same view that sparing out some time to
prepare a full-fledged timetable will definitely aid you in scoring well.

3. Strengthen Important & Key Concepts

You should be working towards strengthening the most important topics of
each subject- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Not all topics carry equal
weightage of marks. Some topics carry more marks, while others dont. For
example, in JEE Main Physics Syllabus of previous year, the theory part (section A) has 80% weightage while the practical component (section B) holds
20% weightage. Devoting much of your time on such topics that carry comparatively more weightage is recommended. You just need to practice such
topics more. Mr. Shailendra Maheshwari, Director- Career Point says, Devote your time to topics as per their weightage from the examination point
of view.
Practise such topics more because if you have understood the concept behind these key topics well, then you will be able to solve a major part of the
question paper correctly, which will ultimately lead you to score well.

4. Solve Previous Year Papers

When you are left with last few months for JEE Main, you must have completed a major part of JEE Main Syllabus by this time, which means that you will
be able to solve questions that appeared in last years. Solving previous year
papers is the most important and required thing to do if you want to excel in
JEE Main exam. JEE Main Sample Papers will provide you an insight into the
type of questions, marking scheme and time duration. Solving these model
papers will give you an idea about how the actual entrance exam will be. Dr.
N.K Bajaj, who has authored two books on JEE Preparation, told Careers360 in
an interview, Solving mock tests is very important to be habitual on the day
of exam. It will prevent panic situations and will give you confidence as well.
While practicing the mock tests, you will get to know your weak areas. So,
you can devote much time to such topics and prepare them well. Setting a
time limit while solving sample papers will improve your speed. Understanding time management during preparation will benefit you during the actual
JEE Main Exam.

5. Avoid Distractions
During the last few months, when JEE Main would be approaching, it is a high
time to focus on your studies only, as all the other things can wait a little.
Dont let any distraction come in your way during JEE Main Preparation. You
can always get back on social networks and friends, but this precious time
should only be dedicated for studies.
Some toppers from previous years also believe that any kind of interruption
can be very harmful. Parth Kothari, who grabbed Maharashtra State Rank 1
and All India Rank 11 in JEE Main Ranking, managed to get a seat in IIT Bombay. Advising JEE Main aspirants to be fully focused on preparation only, he
says, I knew that if I got indulge in friends, I could not make my way for IIT
Bombay. I knew that everyone who might have felt that I am avoiding, on my
success will share the happiness.

6. Manage Stress and take care of your health

Playing some sport occasionally or listening to soft music is recommended
if you are feeling stressful after long hours of studies. Doing meditation to
stay calm is also an amazing stress-buster. Maintaining good health is essential. If you are not taking proper care of your health, then you may fall sick,
and suffer from weakness, headache or fever. This may disrupt your JEE Main
Preparation. So, it is highly recommendable that you focus on your health, eat
properly and sleep well.

Why is it necessary to
make a timetable?
Benefits of making a timetable for JEE Main Preparation are as follows-

1. Helps in Gaining an Extra Edge

A well-planned timetable will help in strategizing your preparation in the
right direction. Pramod Vakacharla, who has been one of the JEE Main highest scorers in past, outsmarted over 13 lakh candidates, who took the exam.
Revealing his JEE Main preparation time table he says, I dedicated around 11
hours daily on studies. I spent 4 hours on my daily classes and rest 7 hours on
self-study. Coaching Experts also advice the aspirants to prepare their timetable in such a way that the complete syllabus is completed in time, so that
there is plenty of time for revision. Aakash Chaudhry, Director, Aakash Educational Services, opines, Aspirants should try to finish the syllabus by January, especially fresher. As the remaining time is less, practise a little more.

2. Enhances Time Management Skills & Boosts Confidence

In an interview with Careers360, JEE Main Topper Kishalay Raj, who scored
perfect 120 in Mathematics and made just one mistake each in Physics and
Chemistry sections, told that proper time management during JEE Main
Preparation and consistency boosted his confidence for the paper. He says, I
used to study about 8-9 hours a day during my JEE preparation phase. I would
go for regular classes in coaching institute for 3-4 hours and rest of the time
I regularly spent on self-study at my home. I divided my time equally among
the three subjects. JEE Main Topper Prathu Baronia, who scored 342 marks
out of total 360, also told Careers360 that time management strategy saved
his time and helped him boost his confidence after hitting a few right answers
during the exam.

3. Aids in Dealing with Study Pressure

The most important thing is that you should have a time schedule, which
you should follow sincerely. A proper study schedule will allow you to relax
also, and this will ultimately lead to reduction in the exam pressure. Its not
the quantity of time, but the quality of time spent for studies that matters.
You should divide this crucial time aptly in the three subjects and prepare a
chapter-wise & topic-wise revision schedule. Take short breaks of five to ten
minutes between every 1-2 hours of serious study. Relax completely when you
take a break.

4. Helps in Focusing on Weak Areas

You should prepare your timetable in such a way that you devote ample amount
of time to your weak areas or chapters, which are a bit tricky or difficult for
you to understand. If weightage of weak areas is more, then give ample time
to overcome them so that these do not pose as a hurdle in achieving overall
goal. Shailendra Maheshwari, Director (Academics), Career Point, advises, A
timetable should be made according to your understanding, capability (weak
& strong areas) and weightage of the topics. One should give more time to
those topics that have good weightage, and are difficult to understand.

on Important Topics?
Experts and toppers opine in unison that devoting extra time on strengthening important topics is a must to do practice, if you want to achieve a good
score in JEE Main exam. Read below top five reasons why every JEE Main aspirant should focus more on such topics-

appearing for JEE Main should know that not all topics carry equal weightage
of marks. Some topics carry more marks, while others dont. Devoting much
of your time on such important topics is recommended. You just need to identify such topics and practice them more. Mr. Shailendra Maheshwari, Director
of Career Point suggests, Devote your time to topics as per their weightage
from the examination point of view. For example, in JEE Main Physics Syllabus, the theory part (section A) has 80% weightage while the practical component (section B) holds 20% weightage.

Reason 2: Important Topics Lead to Overall Good Score

You should practise important topics more because if you have understood
the concept behind these key topics well, then you will be able to solve a
major part of the JEE Main Question Paper correctly, which will ultimately
lead you towards getting a good score. Mr. Ramesh Batlish, who is the Center
Head- FIITJEE (Noida center), says, Practice as much as you can. That will
help in strengthening all important concepts. Brushing up important formulae in all three subjects is a must for every JEE aspirant.

Reason 3: Important Topics Form the Core of Subject

Every portion of the JEE Main Syllabus is important, but there are certain
topics in every subject that form the basis of entire subject and can serve
the purpose of scoring well. Mr. Aakash Chaudhry, Director, Aakash Institute,
says, These topics can be applied in all other chapters, and therefore, having
a thorough understanding of these is very important. Thus, if you have gone
through these more important topics thoroughly, then you can probably attempt questions from other chapters too.

Reason 4: Important Topics Develop Deeper Understanding

Being an engineering aspirant, simply qualifying in JEE Main exam should
not be your only goal. You should also aim for understanding these topics
thoroughly as this will help you in future also whether you opt to go for further studies or job. Knowledge of these topics develops deeper understanding
of the subject and it will be beneficial in your engineering career or higher
studies.

Reason 5: Important Topics help in JEE Advanced Preparation

Simultaneously
Practising the important topics for JEE Main will also be helpful in side by
side preparation of JEE Advanced. If you have managed to secure your position among the top 1.5 lakh candidates in JEE Main, then you will be eligible
to appear in JEE Advanced. Thorough studies of these important topics will be
beneficial during JEE Advanced preparation. Thus, focusing more on important topics will serve dual-purpose for you.
