Reflection lesson 1

On Monday October 31, 2016, I taught my first lesson which was about habitat. At
the beginning of the class, I told them a short story about four animals (tiger,
crocodile, camel and fish) which leave their house without permission. Then they lost
their houses and started cry. After that I asked the students who will help them to
back to their home or habitat. Then I showed them pictures of habitats (desert,
wetland, ocean and rainforest). After that I asked them to stick the picture of each
animal in suitable habitat. Then I gave each group one diorama to discover it. In
addition, I chose some students to present their diorama. Moreover, I showed them
video about habitat. At the end I asked them what do you learned. For this lesson I
used PPT, Video, pictures of animals (tiger, crocodile, fish and camel). I also used
four pictures of habitat, four diorama and worksheet, (differentiation low middle and
high).
Before I taught the lesson I was excited because this my first lesson and I want to see
how students will respond to my lesson. Moreover, after I taught lesson I felt happy
because every things went smoothly without any problems. I also felt glad of myself
because my MST told me that my way of teaching and activities were wonderful.
In terms of what were good, I think the best thing was time management because I
finished the lesson on time and I evaluated students understanding by asking them
questions. I also think that the individual reinforcement was also effective because it
motived students to participate. Furthermore, I think the activities also were very
good.
In terms of what was bad, I think the thing that was bad that I didnt use group
reinforcement. As a result of the students did not care too much about working as
group and they didnt take responsibilities each one f them work individually.
My classroom management went well because I used the rules, individual
reinforcement. The individual reinforcement that I used were words, happy face and
stars. I also used high five strategy at the first time they didnt high five but then
when I repeated more than one time they did it. I think that happened because this
strategy was new for them but then they be familiar with it.
Additionally, I let students to set and work as group. This helped me to move easily
to monitor students. It also gave the learners the opportunity to get to know each
other well while working in groups as Berk (2006, p.25) said that Vygotsky
demonstrates in his social theory that cooperative dialogues between children help
them to improve their communication skills. (Berk, 2006). Furthermore, I think my
time management was good because I used the timer and I gave them five minutes to
do the activity.
Next time, I will try to use group reinforcement to encourage students work as team. I
will also try to show them a video because I noticed that they love the videos very
much. Moreover, I will try to do more activities.
