Procedures

Beginning Class
Attendance Check. I will refer to the permanent seating chart of the classroom to take
attendance.
Absences. Students will be given a calendar of the entire month listing out what we are
doing each day in class. The students will also have a classroom website (blackboard),
that they can refer to that will include the lecture notes and any materials that were used
in class. Students who are absent will know to refer to their calendar and the website for
what they missed, and any physical handouts will be located in the handouts file near
my desk.
Tardy Students. For students who are late for the first time will receive a warning.
Second time will result in a one-on-one meeting with me either at lunch or after school.
Third time will result in a call home to parents.
Warm Up. The first 15 minutes of class will be silent sustained reading.
Announcements. The objectives for the day will be written on the white board, and will
be mentioned out loud at the start of the lesson.
Leaving the room. Students must always for teacher permission to leave the room for any
reason. There will be a sign out sheet that will have students fill out their name, date,
time, and destination. The sign out sheet will be located near door.
Ending Class
Equipment and Materials. 5 minutes before the bell rings students will begin to return any
materials from the classroom to their correct home location.
Announcements. In the last few minutes of class students will be reminded to refer back
to the calendar to see what assignments are coming up and what we will be doing in class
the following day.
Dismissal. Studnets will be dismissed by the teacher after all announcements have been
made and all materials are returned.
Transitioning Between Activities
I will head to the front of the class and give the signal, one hand up, and students will
look for directions. I will provide instructions for students to put away materials or wrap
up their work and then give directions for the next activity.
Student Work
Turning in handouts/homework. Students will be seated in long rows, and when work
needs to be turned in students will pass it to one end. I will collect the papers from the
end of the rows.

Turning in exams. When students finish exams they will walk to the front of the class and
place their papers face down on the table.
Handing back work. During SSR, I will hand back any graded work.
Late Work. No late work will be accepted under any circumstances. If a student feels it
was impossible to turn in something in on time they can have a meeting with me after
school to explain why something was late.
Grading Students Work
Formative assessments. In class activities and homework will be graded on overall
understanding and completion. I as the teacher will provide positive feedback.
Summative assessments. Unit exams, essays, and presentations will have a rubric or
answer key. For projects and essays the students will be given the rubric so they know
what the expectations are.
Communication with Parents
Parents will have access to the students school website (blackboard) where they can see
their progress within the class. I will provide my email to the parents as a way to contact
me if they have any questions, comments, or concerns. I will also send out a handout
asking the parents preferred method of communication.

Rules and Consequences

Rules

1. Respect and be polite to your classmates, teacher, and any guests in the classroom.
2. Come to class prepared. Be ready to be engaged and learn. When the bell rings start SSR
and put any other class work away.
3. Be respectful and listen to the teacher and other students when they are talking. This class
will consist of a lot of group discussions and there will only be one person talking at
once. Raise your hand if you have something to say, and wait to be called on.
4. Always put 100% effort into your work and discussions. Come to class with assignments
complete and ready to participate.
5. Follow the school rules at all times. On campus and in the classroom.
Consequences

4.

The first time any rules are broken the student will be given a verbal warning.
One-on-one meeting with the teacher either at lunch or after school.
Email home to parents letting them know what rules have been broken by the student.
Student will be sent out of the classroom as a last resort, if the teacher has exhausted all
other efforts.

Reflecting the needs for Diverse Students

There will be students who have had trouble with teachers in the past, or have difficulties
following directions. I understand kids make mistakes, which is why there are always
warnings for students who do not follow the directions. I believe every student is capable
of following the rules and procedures of the classroom.
Reflecting my Personal Philosophy
Students need to know that the teacher believes that they are capable of success both in
and out of the classroom. I dont care how students behave in other classrooms, I know
that in mine they will be treated with respect and I expect them to treat the teacher and
the classroom with the same respect.
