Lesson Starter23/10/16
Started by playing the morning routine Phonics, Calendar and Maths songs.
Most girls were engaged and joined in with the singing. Reminded students to
sing-good. Some students continued to talk- make sure you check all
students are participating.
Weekend News-asked students what they did on the weekend on the carpet
so they are able to write this up in their journals. Students were happy to
share their thoughts and responded well. Try to do this last as this leads to
their writing task.
Continued to do the Calendar Time with students although girls were
responding to questions many students were participating however students
continued to talk through Calendar Time. Be comfortable to remind students
of the class rules and dont be afraid to stop and wait for students to pay
attention rather than talking over them. Students worked well and
understood the writing task.
Points to consider- A good start consider pace and timing, maintaining
attention and general class control.

and followed slides to introduce phonics vocabulary, students responded well
to questions and seemed interested.
Explained phonics writing and read out the sentences with the students
before students went to complete phonics activities. As books were being
given out students were sitting talking and playing g on the carpet make sure
instructions are clear.

Walked around the tables and assisted students as required- reinforced

learning outcomes where required.
Will continue to develop strategies to deal with challenging and disruptive

Group activity
AM- Students were explained estimation as revisiting topic from previous
week, most students engaged could have used a PowerPoint or an interesting
starter to engage students. Students given worksheets- guess and check. As
discussed most students did not understand estimate and counted so did not
complete the worksheet correctly therefore finished too quickly and not
engaged.
PM- Repeated estimation activity. Starter the same discussed points to
improve. Worksheet used was different and so higher ability students were
engaged and worked well and understood.
Lower ability students disruptive and off task so make sure activities are
differentiated and consider timing of activity. Worked with lower ability
students to reinforce estimation concept.
