During One 22 Minute Lesson

Class
November 28th-December 2nd
2016

Dear Parents,

This week in Readers Workshop, we will read,

Apple Farmer Annie To increase reading
comprehension, we will work on segmenting letter
sounds in words, substituting letter sounds, adding
phonemes, deleting phonemes, and language
awareness with sentences.WewillSummarize (A good
way to understand a story is to think about the
important key events and the order in which they
happen. We can retell the story from beginning to
end.)Identify Sequence of Events (Identify and
remember in what order events happen in the story.)
Informational Text: Expository (a text that explains
or gives information. Some expository text gives
information using words and illustrations.) For our
phonics lessons we will be reviewing all letters and
sounds.
This week in Writers Workshop we will finishing
our How To pieces and beginning card making. We
will be focusing on using spacing between words,
pointing to the words to reread our writing to see if it
makes sense. We will work on correcting our writing so
it will make sense to others. In Math we will play many
games to reinforce numbers and counting backwards,
comparing numbers, composing and decomposing
numbers, and counting on from a certain number.
For Social Studies we will be talking about
Holidays and Traditions. In Science, we will begin our
scientist of the day lessons.

Thanksgiving Rotations
We had a great time on Friday going to each
kindergarten classroom for a fun holiday activity!

Holidays and Traditions

Parents or grandparents are invited to come and do a lesson
for our class any day in December about a special holiday or
tradition! These lessons will be during social studies
right after lunch at 12:10 and last 20-30 minutes. The
forms came home last week. If you cant find it and want to
participate, just send a note in the folder!

For parents curious what a kindergarten class sounds

like, here are some quotes from one lesson last week:
My nose is bleeding.
____ picked his scab off his knee and wont get a band
aid.
Can you open my water bottle?
____ left the water on.
Can I go to the bathroom?
Can I get a tissue?
Me: (starting to laugh in disbelief at how well my lesson is
going, but dont want the kids to get distracted, all the
while my toes are in sandals and being blown on by a
student).
Me: O.K. Now, what were we learning about?
Student says, Math We were in the middle of a social
studies lesson. Thank goodness for diet coke and recess to
keep up with these funny guys.
Follow up: Later in the day, I told the class I had to give my
daughter her speakers back and that I put a note in the
folders to see if anyone had an extra pair at home. A
student says, We have an attic and we dont keep anything
in there, but we will see if there are some speakers!
