Job description
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques,
procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and
modifications. Performs assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and
require the investigation of a limited number of variables for an engineering
discipline within a global business unit.
Understands the basic discipline work processes. Performs engineering tasks, within a
discipline, having a minor degree of complexity. Participates in reviewing and
checking designs, drawings and data from suppliers. Familiar with relevant
Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and
Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
Position Duties/Responsibilities:
Process Safety Engineer with experience on fast track FEED & EPC projects. Previous
experience with HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessment, RAM, hazardous area classification,
firewater systems, fire and gas detection and consequence analysis/QRA is essential.
Specialist knowledge in one or more of the above areas, or significant operational
plant experience in Process Safety or Loss Prevention would be a distinct
advantage.
Previous FEED/EPC experience on Oil & Gas Processing / Refinery or Petrochemical
projects would be beneficial.
Familiar with US and European safety regulations and requirements especially NFPA,
API, IP, IEC
Other Remarks/Qualifications:
Degree qualified
Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, having strong problem solving and good
communication skills.

Process Safety Engineer-Operator {BP}


Job description
-Lead and/or participate in risk assessments and conduct consequence analysis to
verify the severity of process safety hazards.
-Roughly 10-15% of this positions time involves facilitation or participation in Hazard
and Operability (HAZOP) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies of existing
facilities or complex changes to these facilities.
-Conduct Major Accident Risk Studies (MAR) for existing assets; assess and quantify
risks for changes to process facilities or buildings.
-Work with RCC Team customers to resolve HAZOP, LOPA and MAR study action
items to ensure these actions mitigate the associated process safety risks.
-Advise and develop strategies and methods to further improve process safety
including development of process safety and risk management decision-making
tools.
-Work with Operations and Engineering groups to implement Group and Segment
standards related to Process Safety.
-Participate in site Process Safety Committee -Help develop site competencies in
process safety including: -Analysis of process safety risks and application of
safeguards consistent with BP Group and Refining Segment requirements, Consequence modelling and impacts on facility siting -Effective means to mitigate
process safety risks, including implementation of Inherently Safer Design concepts
Essential Education
-Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Essential experience and job requirements
- A minimum of 7 years experience in refining or petrochemical industry.
- Understanding of the manufacturing process including economics, commercial
awareness, optimization opportunity identification and proper use of technology.
-Chemical engineering or Instrument engineer experience in a plant environment
and supporting field operations.
Other Requirements (eg Travel, Location)

-Chemical or Instrument Engineer degree preferred

chemicals industry. Our Process Safety Engineer position will provide you with the
opportunity to work on exciting small to large scale energy and chemical projects in
our Spartanburg,SC office. You will be a degreed Chemical Engineer with a
minimum ten years experience and a passion to deliver innovative solutions to our
clients.
Our Process Safety Engineers:
1. Assist Business Development on specific process safety opportunities, when
requested. However, cold sales calls are NOT expected.
2. Define and estimate the effort required for new opportunities
3. Assist with planning and scheduling of process safety work.
4. Participate in meetings with client and project team to establish objectives and to
coordinate process safety efforts.
5. Plan and facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), LOPA and other hazards
identification studies.
6. Serve as a Lead for various process safety efforts on process safety only projects
and process safety efforts that are included as part of an overall project design.
7. Lead/facilitate design solutions to reduce risk and incorporate inherently safer
design.
8. Manage action items list and document action item closure
9. Perform compliance evaluations & audits for PSM (OSHA CFR 1910.119) and
design codes & standards (NFPA, API etc.)
10. Execute process safety tasks within Budget and Schedule.
Basic Qualifications
BS Degree in Chemical Engineering.
Trained in multiple PHA techniques and a minimum of two years experience
facilitating PHAs
Two years experience in OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management
implementation, program development and/or auditing

Team player with good multitasking, organizational, interpersonal and


communication skills. Capable of performing with minimal supervision.
Demonstrate practical knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
Minimum 10 years experience
Preferred Qualifications
1. Any experience with Functional safety including Safety Instrumented Systems
(SIS) and Safety Integrity Levels. CFSP, CFSE or equivalent desired.
2. Knowledge of flammable and combustible dust hazards desired
3. Professional Engineer Registration desired
