Dress Code
Although we encourage the expression of students through clothing, we also
want to make the classroom a comfortable learning environment.
Dress Code:
Tank tops may be worn, but any tank top that has spaghetti straps or one
that has a side opening extending down the side of rib cage should be worn
with a shirt underneath it (ie. basketball jerseys, muscle shirts)
Strapless tops are not allowed unless something is worn over them.
Shorts should be long enough that they cover completely the undergarments
at both the top and the bottom.
Clothes may not display vulgar language, drug/alcohol paraphernalia, or
gang related symbols.
Hats may be worn as long as the students face is fully visible
Sunglasses are not allowed to be worn indoors
In a perfect world, a dress code wouldnt have to exist, but this isnt a
perfect world. -Principal of Onion River High School
Security
We strive to ensure that every student at Onion River High School feels safe,
secure and welcome throughout the school day and beyond the classroom.
Resource Officer
Although we hope to never need to use the immediate assistance of an on site resource
officer, we will have a trained resource officer in case any of our security measures fall
through. This officer will act as a security blanket and we also hope that he or she will be a
valuable asset and friend to all members of the student body and faculty.
Bullying:
Should any teacher, faculty member or student witness bullying or harassment
of any kind, they are encouraged to tell another adult, or a member of the
administration.
Teachers will be trained in conflict resolution so that they can resolve conflicts
quickly and effectively to avoid escalation.
If a student feels that they are being bullied by another student online, they are
encouraged to bring evidence to a trusted adult (teacher, administrator,
guidance counselor, etc), so that they can bring both parties together to discuss
the next course of action.
Every student should feel safe every day. Period. -Principal of Onion
River High School
Resource Officer
Should any conflict become too much for a teacher to handle, especially if the conflict is
physical, the resource officer will be called to assist.
Behavior:
Behavior violation (according to teacher discretion) will be investigated by the
administration and a punishment will be issued depending on the magnitude of the
violation.
Consequences:
Having a no tolerance policy regarding bullying and harassment means that any student who
is found to be involved in bullying and harassment will be subject to in school suspension or
at home suspension, depending on the decision of the administrators.
Students who are in violation of behavior ideals will be subject to a loss of privileges such as
club or sport meetings, as well as before or after school detention.
Technology Policy
Technology can be a wonderful addition to the world of education, so we want
to encourage appropriate and effective use of technology in and out of the
classroom.
Cellphones:
During the school day, students are allowed to use their cellphones in the
hallways and cafeteria/library.
All teachers reserve the right to establish rules in their classroom about the use
of cellphones.
