In the house Jesus asked for a confession to further teach them
The disciples were silent under conviction for their selfish ambition
If anyone wants to be first, let him be last of all and servant of all?
Jesus declared himself the last of all by being servant of all! (Mark 10:45)
Jesus takes a child in his arms - what is the object lesson?

They tried to stop a man who was not part of their group lessons?
Cant stop it if its a genuine work of God not follow us? (Acts 5:38-39)
This man was succeeding where they had recently failed (Mk 9:18)

Cup of cold Water rewarded not fragmented, how is this connected?

Stumbling vs. Salting in

the Kingdom 42-50

The Severity of Stumbling 42-48

Millstone = stumbling others is a terrible responsibility before God

Notice the
massive size of
this millstone
with the post in
the middle. A
person would
push the
horizontal beam
or a donkey
would be yoked
to it and would
pull it and circle
around the mill.

Stumbling vs. Salting in

the Kingdom 42-50
These little ones = actual children or the disciples?
Better to cut off a limb = context of stumbling little ones

Stumbling vs. Salting in

the Kingdom 42-50

The Saltiness of Salt 49-50

Salted with fire = over a dozen interpretations
Losing saltiness = the flavor of Christ has been diminished

A major commodity
for ancient
settlements in the
area, the salt that
crystalizes out of
the waters of the
Dead Sea was
regularly gathered
and traded to other
parts of the Levant
for use as
seasoning, in the
preservation of
food and in Temple
offerings (Leviticus
2:13).
