****UNST Cluster Theme Electives: Students are required to select one cluster theme and take 12 credit
hours (4 courses) within the same theme. Health, Lifestyles and Society is the recommended theme
cluster for BSW majors

NOTES
All Social Work students must participate in the Sociology/Social Work Society. No academic
credit will be granted for previous life experience.
SOWK 133, SOWK 134, SOWK 230 and SOWK 235 must be taken prior to SOWK 410 and SOWK
420.
SOWK 133, SOWK 134, SOWK 230, SOWK 235, SOWK 410, and SOWK 420 must be taken prior
to SOWK 507 & SOWK 523.
SOWK 507, 512 and SOWK 523 must be taken concurrently.
SOWK 509, 514 and SOWK 524 must be taken concurrently.
Students must achieve a cumulative grade of 2.6 prior to applying for formal Program
Admission during Spring semester of their Sophomore year (while being enrolled in SOWK
230 & 235, and after successfully completing a minimum of 45 credit hours to include SOWK
133, 134). Students must maintain a 2.6 GPA or better throughout the remainder of their
program. Students must apply for admission to enroll in field instruction during the Spring
semester prior to the Fall semester they wish to enroll in field instruction, but only after having
successfully completed all prerequisites. Part of Sociology/Social Work 570 is to successfully
completed a Comprehensive examination prior to graduation. All required Social Work and
Sociology courses, as well as all English and Speech courses must be completed with a grade of
"C" or better.
Students with a baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than Social Work who wish to meet
requirements for the baccalaureate degree in Social Work must complete the following courses in
residence at N.C. A&T State University. Each applicant's transcript will be evaluated on an
individual basis, but the following Social Work courses are required:
