1.Setting up Virtual Machine Network Settings:

Select Bridged type and External Connection as your Physical LAN. When you
configure VMs, make sure that the Connection type they choose is Bridge as well.
Bridge Connection type creates a bridge between the VM and the Physical Machine.
In this why whatever you choose as a gateway IP address of you PC must be used
as gateway IP address of you VM. Similar case is for DNS, the DNS IP of your PC
must be used as DNS IP address of your VMs

2. Creating New Virtual Machine

Click File > New Virtual Machine

Choose Typical and Click Next

Browse and select the Bootable UCCX8.0 ISO image.

Provide the details and click Next

Click Power on this virtual machine

Media Check: To verify if all the hardware and software requirements are meeting
the criteria to initiate the installation of UCCX 8.0
Click Yes.

Media Check starts.

If the media check is successful, you will see below screen.

Click Ok to install from this media.

Message to confirm the installation.

Click OK

Verification of the version of the software that will be installed.

Click Yes to proceed.

Click Proceed to initiate installation.

Query to apply an upgrade patch.

This is a fresh installation and we dont need any patch upgrade. Click No

Configure Basic Installation

Click Continue to begin with Basic Installation.

Step 1: Timezone Configuration:

In the Timezone Configuration window, choose the appropriate time zone for the server and then choose OK.

Step 2: Auto Negotiation Configuration:

The installation process allows you to automatically set the speed and duplex
settings of the Ethernet network interface card (NIC) by using automatic
negotiation. You can change this setting after installation.
To enable automatic negotiation, choose Yes. The MTU Configuration window
displays.
Note: To use this option, your hub or Ethernet switch must support automatic
negotiation.
To disable automatic negotiation, choose No and continue with the next step.
Click Yes: recommended as per cisco guidelines.

Step 3: MTU Configuration:

In the MTU Configuration window, you can change the MTU size from the operating
system default.
The maximum transmission unit (MTU) represents the largest packet, in bytes, that
this host will transmit on the network. If you are unsure of the MTU setting for your
network, use the default value, which is 1500 bytes.
Caution If you configure the MTU size incorrectly, your network performance can
be affected.
To accept the default value (1500 bytes), choose No.
To change the MTU size from the operating system default, choose Yes, enter
the new MTU size, and choose OK.
Click No

Step 4: Static Network Configuration:

*The Gateway IP address should be the same as that used by your Server. Reason:
The Virtual machine is set to Bridge connection and it replicates all the IP address of
the physical server.

Step 5: DNS Client Configuration:

For CUCM DNS is not mandatory but for UCCX DNS is mandatory as per Cisco
guidelines.

However, we would configure DNS post-installation via CLI and not during the
installation phase.
In my personal experience, DNS was never successful during installation, so I
configured it post installation.

Step 6: Administration Login Configuration:

The Administrator login must start with an alphabetic character, be at least six
characters long, and can contain alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and
underscores. You will need the Administrator login to log in to Cisco Unified
Communications Operating System Administration, the command line interface, and
the Disaster Recovery System.

Step 7: Certificate Information:

Enter your certificate signing request information and choose OK.

Step 8: First Node Configuration:

You can configure this server as either the publisher node in a Cisco Unified
Communications Manager cluster or as a subscriber node.

To configure this server as the first Cisco Unified Communications Manager

node, choose Yes and continue with the procedure to set up the Cisco Unified
Communications Manager publisher node.
To configure this server as a subscriber node in the cluster, choose No and
continue with the procedure to set up a subscriber node.

Leave the installation to continue for around 20 minutes.

Any error message that you can see if at this point.

If you are lucky, you will directly see a page with Application Post Install message:

You may see this page as well where you need to just click once on the screen and
you will move to Application Post Install pages as shown above:

However, if you are lucky enough, you will get a chance to troubleshoot the errors.
(Getting chance to troubleshoot is great, isnt it )
So, the first and last sign that your installation is going to fail is when you see that
Checking Network Connectivity time exceeds by 20 minutes as show below:
However, you will get option to go back and review your network setting and do not
need to follow all the above steps again.

Once you installation fails, you will be able to see these options along with error
message:
Retry: If you are confident enough that setting are correct, you can choose to retry.
The system wont ask for any input and perform another 10 minutes of checking
network connectivity.
Review: If you want to review your network configuration or change any parameter,
this is the option to choose. This option will take you back to the Network settings
page where you can modify/update any missed settings.
Halt/Ignore: If you need to install the software from scratch, choose this option.

However, if you choose to Review, you will see the error message and option to
review your settings:
Click OK to review your settings.
However, make sure that is it not just these settings that ensures the success of the
installation. The installation also depends on your Servers IP settings and your VM
networks settings as well. So kindly review them as well.

The settings that you can review are shown below.

Static Network Configuration:

Then you will be again asked for DNS that you can choose as per your environment
or skip altogether.
I choose to select No and setup DNS later.

Administrator Login Configuration page.

Certificate Information

First Node Configuration: If this server Publisher or Subscriber

For Publisher Choose Yes
For Subscriber Choose No

Network Time Protocol Client Configuration:

Here, if your error message included NTP issue or you are not sure if your NTP is
reachable, you get an option to Test your NTP server connectivity.
If you are sure that your NTP server is correct, you can choose to proceed.
However, make sure that without NTP configuration you cannot proceed with the
installation. So there is no way around until you get a reachable message when you
Test your NTP server connectivity.

And finally you will end up seeing below screen.

However, you are not done yet.

It is most like that your username and password wont work the first time and you
may need to reset it again. (I have experienced it every time, however the reason is
still not clear)

To reset the admin password use below credentials:

1) Username: pwrecovery
2) Password: pwreset

Here you need to do once or twice Disconnect > Connect as show below on the VM
removable Devices page:
I would recommend Disconnecting and connecting all the CDs in your list.

Once the system detects that you have removed and re-inserted virtual CD drive,
you will see below three passwords that you can reset:
(This is just password rest process, the username will still be the same that you
used during installation)

Here you need to reset admin password, so press a and click enter.
Enter same password that you used during installation or any other of your choice.

You will see the below success message.

As soon as you press any Key, you will be back to the login page:

User your username and password to login to the screen.

As soon as you see the below screen, you are all done with the installation part.
Now you can enjoy your UCCX configuration experience.
