Objectives: Students will analyze the impact of Pearl Harbor by comparing and contrasting the war before and after the
event.
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable): The students will complete a compare and contrast chart with information pertaining to
the lesson. There can be no more than one mistake on the chart in terms of placing the information in the correct place.
Sub-objectives, SWBAT (Sequenced from basic to complex):
SWBAT define isolationism
SWBAT identify Pearl Harbor
Opening (state objectives, connect to previous learning, and make relevant to real life)
Teacher will start by having the students look back at a time when the United States was attacked by foreign
enemies. The attacks of September 11th will be brought up because it is a similar type of event.
Instructional Input
The teacher will introduce the lesson by comparing the 9/11 attacks and Pearl Harbor.
Teacher Will: Hand out two informational sheets to all
students. One sheet is information on the United States
policy of isolationism, and the other is an overview of the
attacks on Pearl Harbor and its immediate aftermath.
Students will individually read the worksheets and
highlight important information.

Closure/Student Reflection
Students will write a 25 cent summary on the importance of Pearl Harbor in WWII.
