Essential Question: How can 3D printing change the use of technology in the medical industry?
Working Thesis: 3D printing is changing the medical industry in good and bad ways.
Refined Thesis: As 3D printing keeps evolving in the twenty-first century it is changing the way
that we use technology in the medical field for ways that could shape the way that we are for the
good despite the negative ways that it can bring up.
Annotated Bibliography
Gobble, MaryAnne M., and Dan Headrick. "Can 3D Printing Save 2D?." Research Technology
Management 59.1 (2016): 5. MasterFILE Premier. Web. 13 Sept. 2016.
MaryAnne Gobble and Dan Headricks article informs us about how 3D printing has
developed throughout the years in medical technology and how it is growing rapidly. Many
people nowadays use 3D printing for various reasons such as, plastics, dentistry, and even
radiologist use it. Over the past few years, 3D printing for medical uses has rapidly grown from
no one barely using it or knowing what it is to 3D printing now being one of the main medical
technologies used in the field. Gobble and Headricks article will support my article on how 3D
printing is changing the use of technology in the medical field.

Lewis, Caroline. "3-D Printing And Surgery A Paradigm Shift." Plastics News 27.41 (2016):
0013. Small Business Reference Center. Web. 13 Sept. 2016.
Caroline Lewiss article reports that the New York University Langone Medical Center
has started using 3D printing as a surgical aid. Using 3D printing in the medical industry as a

surgical aid is just one of the many things that are changing the use of technology in the medical
field. Although, using 3D printing as a surgical aid is very expensive, it is a world changing tool
and the New York University Langone Medical Center seem to think that it it worth the price.
Lewiss article will support my thesis on how 3D printing is changing the medical field by using
3D printing as a surgical aid in the New York University Langone Medical Center.

Smith, Kate. "Personalized Medicine." Best's Review 3 (2015): 24-25. Small Business Reference
Center. Web. 13 Sept. 2016.
Kate Smiths article contains information about how much 3D printing is being used in
the medical field along with its risks of being used. 3D printing prosthetics and orthotics is
something that is changing the world as we speak, it is becoming more personal and precising on
how to help the patient. Even though the risks of 3D printing are pretty high, it still seems to
become one of the most advanced technologies in the medical industry. Most patients must also
become biocompatible to accept a 3D printed limb. Smiths article will support my thesis on how
3D printing is changing the use of technology in the medical industry.
