Imagination as a form of expression

Reading
Using Fiction and Non-Fiction text, students will: explore their role as a reader and active listener during independent, shared and guided reading activities.
-Report/Explanation Texts: Use non-fiction text features (contents page, glossary, photographs and captions) to inquire into communities and community
members.
-Narrative text type: Analyse fiction text features extend oral retells and focus on targeted reading strategies.
Ongoing Reading Skills:
Comprehension Strategies: connections, visualize and find important information
Reading strategies: Picture Clues, high-frequency words, decoding
Writing
Through the Writing Process, students will understand the form, features and purpose for writing recounts and personal reflections.
-Recounts: Use voice and organize writing while recounting personal experiences.

Within the following mathematical concepts, students will develop knowledge, skills, vocabulary and enduring understandings related to:
-Chance & Data: By collecting, representing and analysing data about class culture, shared roles and responsibilities within communities (at home and
school).
-Space & Shape (Location): Apply simple mapping skills to draw a map of the school and local community as well as provide oral directions based on
location.
-Measurement (Time): Accurately read a calendar, recognize cyclical nature of dates and times and relate the concept of time to home-school routines and
responsibilities
-Number: Review 1:1 correspondence, conservation of number and ordinal numbers. Consolidate ability to read, write, model and order numbers to 20 and
explore estimation strategies.

Arabic A: My spaceship and some letters. Arabic B: will learn about the landsmarks in the U.A.E and how to express what they like in the U.A.E.. They will
learn about the colors and the months of the year.

Music

Students are deepening their understanding of the elements of music. Along with beat and rhythm, students are demonstrating their knowledge of pitch and
dynamics through voice, movement and body percussion.

In addition to swimming students in G1 will be exploring sports day events. Students will be developing their throwing and jumping techniques and be
encouraged to work as a team in team games. Opportunities will be given for measuring and timing performances and through practice, they will try to
improve their personal bests. We will relate the central idea of who we are by discussing their own abilities and how athletic skills can be transferred into
other sports. Athletics will also bring opportunities to discuss many attitudes to learning such as enthusiasm, respect, commitment and empathy.
Students will:
- Be introduced to abstract art.
-Explore the art elements of line and shape.
-Learn about the art of Alexander Calder and Henri Matisse.
-Understand that as artists they can use their imagination to create new forms and shapes.
-Create a collaborative sculpture and an individual print.

Ideas and feelings can be communicated with others in a variety of modes and for a variety of reasons. Students will learn the framework within I messages
as a useful tool to help them effectively communicate feelings and propose solutions.
