Strength and manliness are virtue; weakness and cowardice are sin. Independence is virtue; dependence is sin. Loving others is virtue; hating others is sin. Faith in God and in ones own self is virtue; doubt is sin. Nature wants us to re-act blow for blow, cheating for cheating, lie for lie, to hit back with all our might. It requires a super divine power not to hit back, to keep control, to keep unattached. Never mind failures, they are quite natural, They are the beauty of life, what would life be without them? Three men cannot act in concert together in India for five minutes.
Each one struggles for power and in
the long run, the whole organization comes to grief. When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face and when I see not one ray of light on the horizon I turn to Bhagavadgita and find a verse to comfort me and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of over whelming sorrow. My life has been full of external tragedies and if they had not left any visible and indelible effect on me I owe it to teachings of Bhagavadgita. We want that education by which character is formed, strength if mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one own feet. To me the very essence of education is concentration of mind, not the collecting of facts. Bring light to the ignorant, and more light to the educated for the vanities of the education of our time are tremendous. The more the power of concentration, the more knowledge is acquired,
because concentration is the one and
only one method of acquiring knowledge. The education which does not help individuals to equip themselves for the struggle of life, which does not bring out strength of character, a spirit of philanthropy and the couragre of a lion is it worth the name? Fortune favours the brave and energetic. Infinite energy, infinite enthusiasm, infinite daring, infinite patience : Then alone can great deeds be accomplished. The mind uncontrolled and unguided will drag us down, down for ever-rend us, kill us, and the mind controlled and quided will save us, free us.
When a man is under the control of
senses he is of the world. When he has controlled the senses the world is of him. Desires of the body bring only momentary satisfaction and endless misery.
DID YOU KNOW?
The word February is from the Roman Calendar. In the Roman Calendar the first month of the year was March, which was named after the Roman god of war, Mars. Because this was the time, war could be resumed. February was the last month of the year and it was named after Februariua, the ritual for atonement.
Take one thing up and do it, and see
the end of it, and before you have seen the end, do not give it up. God blesses those families where women are happy and well treated. Character has to be established through a thousand stumbles. The ideal of womanhood in India is motherhood; that marvelous, unselfish, all suffering, ever forgiving mother. So long as there is fear it is not love. Love never asks, never begs. Love loves for the sake of love itself. You may always say that the image is God, the error you have to avoid is to think God the image.
Learn everything that is good from
others, but bring it in, and in your own way absorb it, do not become others. Anything that makes you physically, intellectually, and spiritually, reject it as position. This life is short, the vanities of the world are transient but they alone live who live for others, the rest are more dead than alive. Vedanta recognizes no sin. It recognizes only error, says Vedanta, is to say that you are weak, that you are a sinner, and that you have no power and you cannot do this and that. When a man is under the control of senses, he is of the world. When he has controlled the senses the world is of him.
Do good to all, like everyone, but do
not love anyone.
MONEY IS A GOOD SERVANT.
A VERY BAD MASTER
BUT
Man needs food, shelter and
clothing. Money is required to get them. So, money is very important for his survival. Man works very hard to earn it. It is a great blessing if he handles it carefully. If he misuses it, he will be in trouble. The worship of Mammon is the cause of all evils. Love of wealth is responsible for many wars also. Money, is like a double edged weapon. Man can make
use of it for constructive or
destrictive purposes. It is very harmful if it is allowed to over-ride him. If a man becomes too much money-minded he becomes very dangerous. He behaves like a savage. He losses his character, name and fame to get money.
