HALLOWEEN'S HISTORY
What many people do not know is that Halloween is a
celebration of Celtic origin which is about 3,000 years ago.
It emerged in northern Europe, particularly in Ireland, but
also held in other countries like the current England,
Scotland, France and Spain, especially in Galicia.
The people of the different peoples of Celtic culture
celebrated a festival called "Samhain", which means "the
end of the harvest". They made on October 31, because for
them, that day began the winter and a new year. They were
also convinced that that night the spirits returned to their
former homes, so that night put candles in the windows and
left them food at the entrance of their homes.
How it became such a popular party?
In the nineteenth century many Irish migrated to America
and took with them this tradition, which liked the American
people. In the early twentieth century the party began to
spread throughout the nation and began to call Halloween.
In recent years, media, television series etc., have made
Halloween is a special day on the calendar for many of us.
Today this festival like especially to children, who enjoy
dressing ghosts, skeletons, witches and many other scary
costumes. The houses are decorated with pumpkins in
which grotesque faces carved and sometimes emptied
them to introduce a candle that give them an even more
terrifying aspect.
