In response to the clamor of the citizenry to put up a Science High School in Navotas
City, NAVOTAS SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL was conceptualized.
Through the efforts of Dr. LORETA B. TORRECAMPO, Schools Division
Superintendent and the benevolence of Navotas solon, the Honorable Congressman
TOBIAS REYNALD M. TIANGCO, the school came into existence. Thanks to these two
prominent and influential public servants who saw the need for a science high school that
would cater to underprivileged but talented students with high English proficiency,
scientifically inclined and with excellent capabilities.
On May 1, 2013, the Division of Navotas City through the able support of the
supervisors promulgated the guidelines for the admission of Grade 7 students to
NAVOTAS SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL. Thereafter, a selection test was administered to
incoming Grade 7 students. To qualify for admission, the applicants should have grades
not lower than 85% in the core and non-core subjects. Most importantly, they should pass
the entrance examination which consists of proficiency tests in Verbal, Numerical and
Abstract Reasoning as well as the panel interview with their parents in tow.
Of the 36 qualified applicants from both public and private schools in Navotas City,
only 29 passed the examination with flying colors. Twenty-six of them graduated from
public elementary schools while three of them finished their elementary grades in the
private schools.
In June, 2013, the first batch of NSHS Grade 7 students held their classes at the
ground floor of the BES building.
The second batch composed of 37 students occupied the Concern building.
The third batch with a total number of 33 students is presently occupying Room
1 of the Sandoval building.
Three years after NSHS was established, Dr. Maria Cristina A. Robles, NNHS
principal, announced that the school is now independent by virtue of Republic Act 10732
signed by no other than His Excellency President BENIGNO SIMEON C. AQUINO 111
on December 29, 2015. Thus, the school is no longer under the arms of its mother school,
NAVOTAS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL.
At present, NSHS has 34 teachers and 99 students.
