LEARNING ACTIVITIES
A. Preparatory Activities
First, I will let one my students to lead the opening prayer.
Teachers Activity

Students Activity
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil. Amen

Good morning Class!

All: Good morning, Sir!

B. Developmental Activities
I let them recall what theyve learned in the previous lesson.

in Supply, now who can recall?

Student: Sir, the position of a supply curve

more of the underlying determinants of
supply. For example, a change in costs,
such as a change in labor or raw material
costs, will shift the position of the supply
curve.
Very good? Another
Student: If costs rise, less can be produced
at any given price, and the supply curve
will shift to the left. If costs fall, more can
be produced, and the supply curve will
shift to the right.
Any other? What are the other
determinants?
Student: Sir, change in the availability of
factors, or changes in weather, taxes, and
subsidies
Having said so, it seems that were ready to
proceed to our new lesson today.

C. Lesson Proper
Teachers Activity
Our lesson for this morning is all about

Students Activity

Shifts in Demand
It refers to a shift, movement or change
(ordinarily leftward or rightward) in the
demand curve, or a completely new set of
price-quantity relationship reflected in a
new demand schedule.
Price is the common determinant.
Non-price determinants include Changes in
Income, Changes in Population, Changes in,
Tastes and Preferences, and Changes in
Consumers Speculation.
In our last discussion, what are the
determinants of the shift of supply again?
Students: Determinant of supply includes:
changes in price, change in the availability
of factors, or changes in weather, taxes, and
subsidies, will shift the supply curve to the

left or right.
Very good! Now, whats similarity can you
see?
Student: Sir, both has price!
Correct! Price, like what I said earlier is a
common determinant that influences the
movement in the curve.
Changes in Income.
Purchasing power for goods and services
changes as average income changes.
When there is a rise in income, a consumer
will buy more goods even if the price
remains constant. If income falls, an
opposite result will take place. Same also
applies to the other factors.
If the demand curve shifts rightward, it
means its favorable for the consumers.
And is unfavorable if leftwards as you can
see in the diagrams.
Changes in Population.
An increase in population means an increase
in the size of market demand and vice versa.
The many the people and many the demand.
Changes in Tastes and Preferences.
Depends on the tastes and preferences of
consumers. If they like luxurious things or
choose inexpensive products or services, its
up to the consumer.
Changes in Consumers Speculation.
Occasional and based on the current trend
among consumers. And also consumers
prediction of the market.
Any questions from the class? If none, then
well summarize the whole lesson in a
graphic organizer.

IV.

GENERALIZATION
I will show a graphic organizer. The graphic organizer will be used to
generalize the entire lesson.

Shifts in Demand 4

[LESSON PLAN IN ECONOMICS]

After the quick synopsis, the quiz follows for evaluation.

V.

EVALUATION
I will give an essay type of evaluation (5pts each)
1. Explain how the determinants affect the shift by citing examples in
real life situations. You can apply your experience.
2. Explain how the curve move and what it means.
3. In relation to our previous topic and now, interpret the curve.
Determinant: Price

VI.

HOMEWORK
After knowing the determinants affecting the shifts of demand, aside from

economic aspect, make a research on population in the country.

The research should be problem-based (Problem-Based Learning/PBL) and aims
to suggest solutions on the current problem our country the Philippines, is
facing today. And as possible, make use of the comparative method (compare to
various countries and their ways of controlling the situation).

This research is a prelude to our next topic in relation to population Malthusian
Economics.
