A. CONTEXT SETTING

The San Isidro Profile


San Isidro is named after the Christian
Saint San Isidro Labrador -the Patron of farmers.
San Isidro is one of the "gulf towns" of Davao
Oriental where shorelines stretch along Davao
Gulf. Other gulf towns are Banaybanay, Lupon
and Governor Generoso. This municipality was
created

by

virtue

of Republic

Act No.

4744

enacted by the Philippine Congress on June 18,


1966. It started operating as a local government
unit on January 1968. Its founder and the first
mayor was Vicente Yu, Sr.
The town of San Isidro is now headed by an Environmentalist, nature lover and outstanding Local Chief
Executive Hon Justina MB Yu. San Isidro is politically subdivided into 16 barangays. Seven (7) barangays are
along the coastlines while the other nine (9) are in the interior areas with a total land area of 27,542 hectares
and 35,993 population as of 2015.This municipality started as a Fifth class municipality and now find its seat
as a Third Class municipality. Its inhabitants are predominantly Mandayas with the proliferation also of other
tribes such as Kalagan, Boholanos, Cebuanos and many others.

The San Isidro Economic Profile


The municipality of San Isidro is presently
composed of sixteen (16) barangays with an
estimated area of 27.542 hectares which is
roughly equivalent to 5.33% of the entire area of
the province. Its current land uses are as follow:
Agriculture areas, 12,895.20 hectares (46.83%)
Woodlands/Forest

Areas

8,029.50

hectares

(20.40%) Miscellaneous Areas, 110.00 hectares


(0.04%); and wetland Areas, 895.70 hectares
(3.25%).

This Municipality is blessed with magnificent and wonderful gifts of nature such as:
Mt. Hamiguitan Range and Wildlife Sanctuary
This newly proclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site last June 23, 2014 gave fame to this municipality,
thus opens windows of opportunities to its residents. The area of the nominated property is 6.348.99
hectares. This is a center of endemism because of its highest land base biological diversity in terms of flora.

It appears like a huge vegetable garden in the midst of the jungle. It is a 1,234.56-hectare forest filled
with various species of century-old strong sturdy bonsai trees naturally dwarfed from 1 foot to 5 feet tall.
It covers 7 hours walking from Sitio Tumalite, La Union, San Isidro, and Davao Oriental.
PugadSayaw
It is located at Sitio Magtalinga, Barangay Talisay, and 13 kilometers away from Poblacion. It can be
reached by jeepneys and motorcycles within 30 minutes. It is surrounded with huge rocks cascading
waterfalls. It will serve as alternative and interpretation site of Mount Hamiguitan.
Cawa Cawa Falls
It is located at Barangay Maputi, San Isidro Davao Oriental. Its looks like a huge pan with cool clear
water about 15 feet deep. Considered one of the best as to mountain resort development. It is very
accessible by any kind of vehicle.
Burias and Tinaytay Reefs
It is located in Barangay Bitaogan, San Isidro Davao Oriental. A kidney shaped shifting white coral san
with a deep of 4 meters during high tide but a hectare of white sand is perfect during low tide. It has a coral
reef of about 40 hectares.

Police

Station

was

established

simultaneously with the creation of San Isidro Municipality on June


1966. San Isidro Municipal Police Station is composed of two (2)
PCOs, thirty three (33) PNCOs and Four (4) NUPs. The population
ratio of PNP as of the present is 1:1028 which did not achieved the
ideal ratio of 1:500.
San Isidro Municipal Police Station is presently headed by PSI
ARLES C BRUZA II as Officer In-Charge. The friendly forces present within as well as that on the vicinity of the
municipality are the joint 28 IB Armed Forces of the Philippines and CAA Detachment situated at Bagsak,
Batobato, San Isidro Davao Oriental; the

PATROL BASE(5th PLATOON DOPPSC) at Panabsaban, Brgy.

Dugmanon, San Isidro Davao Oriental; and Bravo Company 28 IB located BRGY CORPORACION, LUPON, and
DAVAO ORIENTAL.
The San Isidro Municipal Police Station caters sixteen (16) barangays namely: Batobato, Baan,
Bitaogan, Cambaleon, Dugmanon, Iba, Lapu-lapu, La Union, Manikling, Maag, Maputi, San Miguel, San Roque,
Sto. Rosario, Sudlon and Talisay.
