Kia ora Penny
You have given a good overview of the supervision sessions an overview requires you to give the
facts, what did you see without embellishment or opinion (unless evidenced).
Your analysis of how Taipa conducted his supervision session with Ian was insightful. As you suggest,
there are spaces and places where Tai seems not to be listening, imposing his views and quite
forcefully in some areas i.e. kai without regard to Ians worldview. As a Mori who is giving
supervision, do you think that this should be explained at the beginning so as to set a platform to
work from mutual understanding? As you say just because there is familiarity, should
professionalism be side-0lined?
Your analysis of Tai, Elias and the student gave good overview of their positioning and understanding
with regard to supervision and it shows how different we are with regard to how we understand
supervision to be from our own worldviews. Interesting, regarding the process of parallel
processing and how it is we take care of traversing two worlds this could be asked of the first
video critique how did Taipa traverse 2 worlds or did he?
The discussion between Ian and Ian was an eye opener, thought provoking, honest discussion to
gaining some understanding of a Pakeha worldview. So in gaining some sense of the Pakeha
condition how would one then proceed with a bi-cultural supervision session or would this put a
different slant on the session, i.e. educative and directive/ controlling? The oral mapping of these
values, traditions and principles that have been passed down from our tipuna validates that we need
to continue to be Maori where ever we are. Tihei mauri ora
Your word count was lacking in a couple of the video analysis and hence opportunity to unpack
further was missed I enjoyed reading your analysis.
