Practicum 3 Assessment of the Business Venture Presentation Guidelines
For the Panelists and Advisers
A. Nature of the PRCENT3 Business Presentation
The Assessment of Business Venture Paper of the PRCENT3 groups is presented to a panel of two (2) DSI
faculty members (draw lots by the PRCENT3 Presidents) and the groups adviser. The business
presentation in PRCENT3 is the culminating activity of the groups 10 month operation in the entire
Practicum program.
B. Objectives of the PRCENT3 Assessment of Business Venture Presentation
1. General Objective
To present the result of the three term business operations (as compared to projections / forecast from
the Business Plan), and to share the experiences and learnings in the areas of marketing, production,
finance, human resource management and information technology.
2. Specific Objectives
The business presentation aims to develop among the student their presentation skills such as :
2.1 Oral communication skills in presenting the results and learnings;
2.2 Proper use of audio-visual aids; and
2.3 Critical thinking to be able to answer convincingly the questions posed by the panelists.
C. Procedure for Assessment of the Business Venture Performance Report and Presentation
1.

The Practicum group shall submit the financial statements to the assigned auditor on or before the
prescribed deadline.
1.1
The audited financial statements shall be returned to the Practicum group on the specified
date.
1.2
If the financial statements are such that the auditor cannot render an opinion, then the
Practicum group shall not be allowed to defend.

2.

The Practicum group shall liquidate and dissolve the business venture (for simulated business
registration groups). For the actual business registration groups, they have the options to continue
or to dissolve their business venture.

3.

The Practicum group shall submit the first draft of the Assessment of the Business Venture
Performance Report to the Practicum adviser two weeks before the actual deadline for submitting the
Assessment. This draft does not yet include the financial statements, which are still be audited. The
Practicum adviser shall return the said draft with comments to the Practicum group within one week
from the submission of the draft.

4.

Prior to submission of the final draft of the Business Venture Performance Report to the Practicum
Coordinator. The Practicum group shall secure the signature of the Practicum adviser on the Approval
Sheet and Endorsement Form.

D. Choice of Panelists
1. A panel is composed of two (2) faculty members from Decision Sciences and Innovation department.
2. The composition of the panel shall be based on time availability of the faculty members and draw lots
from the practicum groups.
3. To ensure fairness and objectivity in the presentation / defense, any request for the change of panelists is
not allowed.
4. Panel member who will be absent during the panel defense should duly inform the Practicum
Coordinator at least 48 hours before the actual presentation / defense. He, then should send the predefense form with the grade for the written report to the panel chairperson within 48 hours after the
scheduled presentation / defense. A substitute will be assigned by the coordinator in place of the absent
panel member, who will give grade only to the oral presentation of the group.
E. Scheduling of the Groups for Defense / Presentation
1. The number of time slots is based on the number of groups who will defend / present. The presentation /
defense is scheduled on a Friday or Saturday. Since the Practicum Adviser must also be present during the
presentation, his / her time availability is also considered in determining the defense / presentation schedule
of his group. Assignments of time slots and panelists will be done by DRAW LOTS.
F. Posting of Schedule
1. The defense / presentation schedule is posted on the official bulletin board of the DSI Department at
least three (3) days before the deadline of the submission of the written document / report.
2. All panelists and advisers are furnished with copies of the schedule.
G. Submission of the Written Reports
1. All Practicum Groups shall submit three copies of their Assessment of the Business Venture Performance
Report to the Practicum Coordinator on or before the deadline. Failure to do so is a ground for failure (0.0
for PRCENT3 course).
2. Panelists and advisers are furnished with a copy of the Business Venture Performance Report at least
three (3) days before actual presentation.
3. Panelists are not supposed to accept any additional papers / materials from students after the Business
Venture Performance Reports have been distributed to the panelists. However if the students submit
addenda or errata sheets, the panelists grade for the written document is not affected.
H. Actual Presentation
1. The Assessment of the Business Venture Performance Report and the Presentation Style shall be the
subject of the defense. The defense will last for 1 hour. The first 20 minutes is allocated to the presentation
while the remaining 40 minutes is for questions and answers. The breakdown of the Assessment grade is
discussed in section I # 6.
2. The presentation should start promptly. An allowance of 20 minutes is given for late presentation.
Complete attendance of the group members during the presentation is required. After 20 minutes, the
panelists may leave the defense venue, the practicum group will be then given the grade of 0.0.

3. The group or any of its members who is absent during the presentation automatically receives a grade
of 0.0 for the Oral Presentation. However, special consideration may be given if the said absence is caused
by fortuitous events such as natural calamities, revolutions, hospitalizations due to food poisoning, major
accidents involving the group members. A special defense may be scheduled during the final exam week.
4. During the defense, the Practicum group should bring a copy of the approved Business Venture Plan
and other supporting documents.
5. The practicum adviser is not supposed to answer for the group during the defense. He may only be
consulted by the panelists for some clarifications regarding the conduct of the business of his group.
6. The entire defense must be conducted in a climate of respect and in the spirit of constructive criticism.
The feeling at the end of every defense must be one of satisfaction because it was learning exercise for all.
7. Food / snacks are provided by the department for the panelists and adviser. The presenting groups are
not encouraged to provide additional food.
I. Grading
1. The panelist should evaluate and give a grade for the written document prior to the presentation.
2. If a panel member is absent, the computation of the grade for the written paper is postponed until such
time that the absent panel members grade has been received by the panel chairperson (at most 48 hours
after the scheduled presentation / defense). In cases when grade for the written reports is not submitted by
the absentee panelist, the grade will then be based on the panel chairpersons grade. This rule also applies
if it is the panel chairperson who is absent.
4. The proxy to the absent panel member shall grade only the oral presentation of the group.
5.

The panel members must use the appropriate evaluation forms which are provided by the coordinator.

6. In the turn of century policy, there is no minimum grade for the presentation and the paper . The
average grade to be given by the panel members is equivalent to a total of 40% of the Practicum 3 final
grade. Thus to compute for the defense grade, the Panel chair shall follow the same procedure of averaging
the scores of the two panelists for the assessment paper and oral presentation portions. The grade for the
assessment of the Venture Paper Presentation is computed as 15 % on oral, and 25% on written document.
The following is the PRACTI3 Grading System :
Assessment of the Venture Paper Presentation (15% oral, 25% written)
Peer Evaluation
Teachers Evaluation
TOTAL
(Passing Mark : 70%)

40%
20%
40%
100%

7. The criteria for evaluation is as follows:

7.1 On the assessment of the written document, the following points are considered: writing style,
accuracy, consistency, clarity, organization, and comprehensiveness.
7.2 On the oral presentation, the following points are considered: oral communication skills, confidence
and projection, ability to answer questions, team work, time management, use of visual aids, and
creativity of presentation.
7.3 The grade of the Assessment of Business Performance Report shall be given at the end of the
presentation / defense. This grade is considered final.

8. There will be no holding of grades for whatever reason. Grades will be given at the end of the
presentation / defense to the adviser. The adviser will then turn over these grades to the Practicum
coordinator.
Grades of PRCENT3 groups can be given 0.0 in the following cases :
8.1 Late submission of Business Venture Performance Report
8.2 No endorsement by the practicum adviser
J. Deliberations
1. The Adviser and the students should step out of the room during the deliberation. However, the panelists
may have the option to call the adviser for clarifications during the deliberations.
2. After the deliberation, the adviser and the students will be requested to return to the venue.
3. The adviser should be informed of the average grade as well as ratings given by the individual panelists.
4. Students should be informed only of the average grade of the panelists.
5. The completed grading sheet shall be given to the Practicum Coordinator for filing purposes and
computation for the Best Practicum Award.
6. The panelists and adviser should fill up the Nomination for Most Innovative Product / Service Award
Form.
K. Revisions
1. Revisions on the written document should be done and presented to the panelists for approval one
week after the defense date. The group should submit additional appendix LEARNINGS from the
DEFENSE to the panelists

member will sign the PANELIST APPROVAL FORM..
