Onboard Power Supply and Networking
Audi
Service Training
Whether the engine fuel system, the dual clutch gearbox, the
infotainment system or any one of a number of driver assistance
systems a modern vehicle would cease to function without
electrical and electronic equipment.
A high-performance alternator, a battery rated for the vehicle's
specication, and reliable and fast data transfer across various
data bus systems are all vital components of a stable and ecient
onboard power supply system.

Battery
In the Audi A313, the vehicle battery is housed in the engine bay
and protected by a battery box. Battery size and type are dependent on engine version, trim and country specication. Standard
batteries, EFB batteries and AGM batteries are used.
EFB
AGM battery
An EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) can be regarded as a heavyduty wet-cell battery. The positive plate inside the battery is coated
with an additional polyester scrim. This provides additional hold
for the active battery material. The deep-cycle resistance is higher
than that of conventional batteries. An EFB is charged in exactly
the same way as a conventional battery.

In addition to the standard at fuses, the space-saving mini fuses
and the circuit breakers (thermal fuses), a new type of fuse is used

The networking diagram on pages 8/9 provides a schematic overview of the communication paths of in-vehicle control units.
The equipment level dictates which control units are installed in
the vehicle. Here are just a few examples:
The headlight range control unit J431 is never tted at the
same time as the cornering light and headlight range control
unit J745.
The Headlight Assist control unit J844 is never tted at the
same time as the front camera for driver assistance systems
R242
The seat occupancy recognition control unit J706 is only available in the North American market
The TV tuner is only available in certain markets
MOST150
The MOST150 is used in the Audi A313 for the rst time in an
Audi vehicle.
This developmental stage in MOST technology is six times faster
than the MOST25 bus. The development process necessitated
various modications to MOST components.

The AudiA313 can be tted with fog lights. These are integrated
in the bumper and equipped with a 35 watt H8 bulb. The fog lights
are activated directly by the onboard power supply control unit
J519.
To replace the bulb, rst the air intake grille and then the fog light
must be removed from the bumper.
610_052
610_053
Motorway light
The motorway light is an asymmetrical light which illuminates the
oncoming lane slightly better than the country road light.
The motorway light is activated if the vehicle exceeds 110 kph for
an extended period, and immediately if a speed of 130 kph is
exceeded. In models equipped with a navigation system, the
motorway light is activated when the vehicle is travelling faster
than 80 kph and the navigation system recognises motorway
driving.
610_054
Main beam
The main beam is a symmetrical light. It can be activated by
operating the main beam stalk, the main beam assist function or
the intelligent light system.
610_055
35
Adaptive light
The adaptive light adapts to the curvature of the corner depending
on vehicle speed and steering angle, thereby illuminating the
corner better. This function is active in a speed range of 10 kph to
110 kph.
610_056
Town light
The town light is a symmetrical close-range light. It is activated at
speeds of between 5 kph and 50 kph in models equipped with a
navigation system if the navigation system detects a built-up area.
The adaptive light cannot swivel when the "town light" function is
active.
610_057
Cornering light
The cornering light is produced by activating the G8 bulbs on one
side in the bi-xenon headlights with adaptive light.
The following conditions must be met in order to activate the
cornering light:
sharp steering angle and driving speed of less than 70 kph or
activated turn signal and driving speed of less than 40 kph
It is activated in addition to the country road light and the town
light.
610_058
Intersection light
The light function "Intersection light" is also available for models
equipped with a navigation system.
The intersection light is produced by switching on both cornering
lights. It helps the driver to detect hazards from the side at road
intersections and is activated ahead of the intersection.
