My Philosophy of Education
Purpose of Education
Education is extremely important. Becoming educated is the key to reach a successful
life, inside and outside of school. Educators need to educate children and not just help them
become literate. Often times, people confuse the difference between being educated and literate.
Literacy is based on knowing how to read and write, however, education is being able to
critically think and use the literacy skills to benefit and gain more knowledge. Generally,
educated children develop skills that grow with them to adulthood. Educated people often
question and not believe everything, become curious about the world, have an opinion, a
healthier lifestyle, and contribute to the economic growth.
Learning Environment
All students deserve to feel comfortable, safe, and engaged in a classroom. Students tend
to feel more open to participate in class if they notice the values and focus are persistent on the
positive aspects of learning. Classrooms should be maintained clean and resourceful because
many students see it as their only home. In addition, the learning should always be fair and equal
for all types of learners so they can always have the opportunity to participate and be engaged.
All children should be educated in an environment that is responsive to their needs and in a way
help them develop critical thinking (Dewey). However, most importantly, I believe children
learn best when they are in an environment where they are not worried about a passing grade but
actually learning the material. When children focus on passing they lose the whole purpose of the

lesson. Giving students the ability to become responsible for their learning will help students
become self-motivated and will also stop disciplinary issues, if any.
Commitment to Social Justice
The priority of every school should be to provide a proper and equal education to all
students. In order to serve a diverse population and ensure equality is to invest in every way
possible towards their education. Teachers who invest in the learning of their students are those
who create lesson plans taking in consideration their English language learners, the students with
disabilities, and problems that students may be going through at home. The level of difficulty of
instruction needs to always be adjusted to accommodate every learner. The information being
taught should include vocabulary, list, graphs, examples, scenarios, or other visual way to
maximize the meaning to learners. In addition, students need to be allowed to interact verbally
with partners or in groups to process new learning. When this is done, students feel encouraged
to learn because they can relate to what is being taught. In addition, having the material relatable
to everyone helps them create a higher self-efficacy towards the subject being taught.
Curriculum
The new standards in Common Core are originated to help students truly understand the
learning goals for each grade level. I believe teachers need to have a good self-efficacy towards
all the subjects, so they can provide the best curriculum to the students rather than just doing the
minimum. In addition, instructional objectives should be developed with the Blooms Taxonomy
in mind in order to develop higher level thinking skills in our students (Bloom).Teachers
should teach in an engaging way to create interest and focus from the students. A way to interest
students should structure curriculum around real and significant problems in which the students
desire to engage (Dewey). At the same time, all subjects should be taught with the same

importance. Teachers and students need to understand that every subject matters, including
physical education.
Teacher
Effective teachers are often those who enjoy teaching, put effort in making a difference,
spread positivity, get to know their students, offer their 100%, and stay organized. Most people
who love and care for childrens education will enjoy teaching them. Making students feel safe
and secure in the classroom will make them feel special and make a difference in their lives. All
teachers need to leave their personal problems outside of school and bring positive energy into
the classroom every day. Getting to know the students and the students getting to know the
teacher helps find ways to connect with each other. Going above and beyond for the students
education takes a lot of time and planning which means that teachers must be organized.
Teachers need to be held responsible to continue learning and develop professionally. In order to
become a great teacher, it requires an ongoing desire to become informed and learn new things to
be the most effective when teaching.
