ABSTRACT TEMPLATE

PAPER 3

Our final Global Writing Seminar assignment requires us to write an essay that
uses personal observations to consider any of the arguments weve read in class
regarding the concept of the global city.

For my paper, Ive chosen to mix my observations of

_________________________________________________________ (tell us
something about what you observed) with a case study material from
________________ (tell us where your case study is from.) Briefly,
_______________________________ (give us a quick sense of what your case study is
about.)

Ive chosen my case study because it allows me a useful way to consider the
arguments that the global city functions as __________________ and
__________________(choose from the concepts listideally ones that provide a sort of
tension you can riff off in your paper.)

To supplement these generalized arguments about global cities, Ill also be

considering theoretical material on ___________________ (name a theory
remember when we did the exercise about this with the grid?) to help me think more
deeply about my specific case study. Right now, my plan is to work with the text
___________________________ (title of a scholarly book chapter or journal article)
from __________________ (name author.) I chose this text because
___________________________ (tell us why.)

As a global studies student, Im committed to producing scholarship that thinks

critically about the advantages and pitfalls of the cosmopolitan perspective. For
this paper, Im most interested in how my own questions, research and writing
intersects with notions of cosmopolitanism as _____________________ and
_______________________ (choose from the concepts listagain, try for some tension,
as this will allow you room for thinking in your paper.)

Right now, Ill probably be writing this paper using a _________________ (choose:
traditional or creative) format.
