Were All Linked Together
Objectives:

- Sets a tone of unity in the classroom.


-Acknowledge similarities amongst peers.
-Students will determine what they like and reflect on the similarities they have
with their peers.
-Encourage self-awareness in students.

State Standards: Speaking and Listening Standards Grade 2: Tell a story or recount an
experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking audibly in coherent
sentences.
Materials Needed: None
Description:
- Teacher will ask students to stay in their seats, or gather either along the side of the room,
depending on the amount of space available.
- One student will volunteer to go first, or the teacher will randomly choose one.
- The first student will stand in the middle of the room/ area designated for the activity and
state 2-3 fact about them. They should state things such as: what they like to eat, do,
things they are good at, etc.
- Once a student hears something that they have in common with the person stating their
fact, then he/she will join him by linking their arms together.
- The second student will them continue stating 2-3 facts about themselves, so that another
student links with him.
- This will continue until all the students have joined together forming a circle.
Follow-up Activities:
- Ask students what they had in common with other people and if the people that directly
connected to them are people that they usually talk too.
- Ask students how they felt when they heard that they have things in common with people
that they normally did not talk to.
- Encourage students to continue to find similarities amongst their peers.
- Ask students if it was hard/ easy to find similarities with their peers. Why?
Assessment:
- Was it easy or difficult for students to state three facts about themselves? Why?
- Did the students stay on track when playing the game, if not, what adjustments can I
make, so that this does not happen again?
- Did students step out of their comfort zone and linked together with peers that they
usually do not talk too, if not, how can I prevent this from occurring again?
