Unit of Study: During the month of November we will be continuing our unit of study; Structures of Life.
We will do investigations with plants and even animals! Crayfish will be joining our classroom on November
7th and we will be learning about what scientists do, how we can collect and compare data, and how living
things can be so alike yet so different. By the end of the month, we will be wrapping up our learning and
hopefully diving into our next Unit of Study
Math: In math class the students are working on Numeral Identification, Place Value, Addition and
Subtraction Strategies, and Work Stations. Counting forward and backward is a skill that will help with
addition and subtraction. Thank you for helping your child with this at home.
All third graders have also been working on successfully mastering lesson DreamBox. It is recommended
that each child try to complete 7-8 lessons a week, so at home practice is strongly encouraged. Lessons
can be reached through the Oak Ridge homepage under student web links.
W ord Study: In October, I shared that we would be sending home spelling words for students to practice
each week. Rather than spelling words every week, we are going to focus on word parts and studying how
words are put together in class. We will be sorting words and transferring our word knowledge into our
reading and writing!
