Holiday lights in Phalen Park
The St. Paul Police Foundation and the St. Paul
chapter of the National Electrical Contractors
Association have teamed up again to create a fun
and affordable holiday event.
Sixty holiday-themed light displays will be located
on a driving path in Phalen Park, 1615 Phalen Drive
E., in St. Paul. Running nightly from 5 to 10 p.m.
Nov. 22 until Jan. 1, tickets are $10 per vehicle if

purchased at the gate. If bought online, the cost per


vehicle is $8.
All of the net proceeds of this event will be
distributed through the St. Paul Police Foundation
to the St. Paul Police Department to provide
enhanced safety and training to officers.

Victorian Christmas at
Ramsey House
This holiday season, the historic Alexander Ramsey House, 265 S. Exchange
St., St. Paul, will be abuzz with the sights, sounds and tastes of a Victorian
Christmas in 1875.
During the guided tour, guests will sample homemade cookies fresh from the
wood burning stove, listen to popular holiday music of the era played on the
Ramsey familys Steinway piano, view original family ornaments and Christmas
gifts, and discover how the family and their friends, neighbors and servants
prepared for and celebrated the Christmas season.
The 60-minute guided tours start every half hour with the last tour starting
at 3:30 pm. A Victorian Christmas runs Wednesdays through Sundays, Nov.
25-Jan. 1, except Dec. 25.
Cost is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors and $7 for ages 6-17. Tickets can be
ordered at the Minnesota Historical Society website or by calling 651-259-3015.

Holiday celebrations
with the Sinfonia
Join the Minnesota Sinfonia this holiday season
for a variety of lighter fare and seasonal favorites
including carols, waltzes, familiar classics, music from
Broadway and much more.
The 2015 Young Artist Competition Senior
Division winner, violinist Alison Oh, will perform
Sarasates Gypsy Airs with the Sinfonia.
The first performance is on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m.
at the First Covenant Church, 1280 Arcade St., St. Paul.
There will be a second performance on Saturday,
Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Basilica of St. Mary, 1600
Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis.
The Sinonia is a professional orchestra and
admission is free. Children are welcome to attend.

A living nativity
Bethel Lutheran Church, 670 W. Wheelock
Parkway, in St. Paul, will host a living nativity, a
re-enactment and experience of the Christmas story,
on Saturday, Dec. 10, from at 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The event will blend Scripture reading, actors
portraying the biblical account, a Bethlehem
marketplace experience, live farm animals and more.
Doors will open first to a Bethlehem marketplace at
5:30 p.m., with periodic live shows starting at 6 p.m.,
lasting about 10 minutes until 8 p.m.
Before and after the enactment, children are
welcome to approach the animals as part of a petting
zoo, and all guests are welcome to enjoy hot nonalcoholic beverages, crafts, as well as cookies and
treats as a part of the marketplace. The event is free
and open to the public, no tickets are required.

Holiday tours of the Minnesota governors residence kick off on


Thursday, Dec. 1. The house will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for two
public tours on Dec. 6 and Dec. 20. There will be an evening tour on
Tuesday, Dec. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m.
While there are no reservations required, tours will be filled on a firstcome, first-served basis. Tours typically last 20 to 30 minutes. There is no
fee, but visitors are encouraged to bring a gently used coat to donate to
Second Harvest Heartland.
During the tours, volunteers from the Womens Auxiliary of the
Minnesota Historical Society will be on hand to answer questions in each
room on the first floor and lower level of the residence.

Oakdale Indoor
Market
The 2016-2017 season of Oakdales Indoor Market
begins Saturday, Nov. 26. The market offers baked
goods, cheeses, syrups, jams and jellies, honey, teas
and coffee, meats, nuts, fresh produce, spices, salsas
and strudels as well as an array of gift items for the
holiday season.
The market hours are 9 a.m., to noon at the
Oakdale Discovery Center, 444 Hadley Ave. The

Hill House Holidays


The bustle and excitement of a Gilded Age
Christmas is brought to life as the servants of the
James J. Hill House, 240 Summit Ave., St. Paul,
prepare for the holidays.
Costumed actors portray people who worked for the
Hill family in a dramatized portrayal of servant life
and holiday preparations at the Hill familys Summit
Avenue mansion. The script is based on letters and
oral history of people who worked for the Hill family
during the first decade of the 20th century.
Tours leave every half hour from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and
the Hill House Holidays run Saturdays and Sundays
from Dec. 3 through Dec. 24. Cost is $12 for adults,
$10 for seniors and college students, $8 for kids ages
5 to 17, and there is a $2 discount for Minnesota
Historical Society members.

North St. Paul city employees invite area residents
to join in the spirit of the season to raise donations
for the North St. Paul Area Food Shelf, and the
continued campaign against hunger.
Over the past several years North St. Paul has
shown its commitment to community and come alive
with generosity. A drop box for non-perishable items
is available at City Hall, 2400 Margaret St. N., or
drop off directly at the Food Shelf located at 2538 E.

Holiday Bake Sale


Union Depot, 214 Fourth St. E., St. Paul, will host
the Fourth Annual Holiday Bake Sale on Saturday,
Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many of the Twin
Cities top bakeries will sell confections, ranging
from gluten-free treats to honey-infused chocolates
and donut bites, and an array of vendors will offer
hostess gift ideas. Lowertown Pop will also host a
mini version of the popular spring event with 10
local makers presenting handcrafted leather goods,
spa items and much more. The event will benefit
the Merrick Community Services Food Shelf. Im

Celebrate the winter solstice


In celebration of the inter solstice -- the longest night of winter -- the

The River Heights Chorale will be celebrating the


2016 holiday season with songs of the North with its
holiday concert, An Ode to Borealis.
There will be three performances. The first on
Friday, Dec. 2 is at 7:30 p.m. at Salem Lutheran
Church, 11 W. Bernard St., West St. Paul. The
second is on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at St.

evening of caroling, community and fun.
Travel to the North Pole and enjoy the Mrs. Clauss
cookies, elf drinks, and reindeer games. If you like to
sing holiday carols, come join the fun. Along with the
caroling, well enjoy some free hot drinks along with
cookies from the North Pole Bakery and well have
reindeer games for the kids. Bring your camera, Santa
and Mrs. Claus, along with Frosty, and Santas Elves
will be there for photos after the tree lighting. We
will have some fun giveaways and prizes and well be
lighting the Square in a special way this year. Come
join the celebration.
The SSP Mayors Youth Task Force will be hosting
the eighth Annual Mitten and Hat Drive. Instead of
placing ornaments on the tree, the Task Force invites
the community to bring hats and mittens to the tree
lighting to place on the tree. The hats and mittens will
be donated to Neighbors, Inc.
In addition, Boy Scout Troop # 95 will be selling
25-inch balsam wreaths for $20 that you can take
with you that night.

The annual Santa Parade has routes going through Spring Lake Park,
Blaine and Mounds View. Part of the goal of Santa Parade is to collect nonperishable food items for local food shelves.

The Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Departments Santa Parade
will be coming to the communities of Spring Lake Park, Blaine and Mounds
View.
Along with the fire department, vehicles from the community police
departments and emergency services will be there as well. Non-perishable food
items will be collected on the routes for local food shelves.
Parades start at 6:30 p.m. each day. Mounds Views parade is on Thursday,
Dec. 1 and kicks off at Arden Avenue and Spring Lake Park Road. Spring Lake
Parks parade starts immediately following the Mounds View parade.
Non-perishable food items can also be brought to Stations One in Spring Lake
Park during the week of the parades.

Santa

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, Inver Grove Heights kicks off


its holiday events with a tree lighting ceremony at
6 p.m. There will also be refreshments, and open
swim. The event is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Veterans
Memorial Community Center, 8055 Barbara Ave.
Santa is coming for breakfast to the community
center on Dec. 10. Families will enjoy light breakfast
(donuts, muffins, juice and coffee), be able to make a
craft, visit with Santa and participate in a toy raffle.
To be eligible for the toy raffle, participants must
bring a pair of mittens or gloves to donate. There are
two sessions available: 8:30 to 10 a.m., and 10:30 to
noon. Cost is $5 in advance or $7 at the door.
Santa visits the Veterans Memorial Community
Center on skates on Dec. 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Help spread holiday cheer and possibly win a prize!
Enter the Inver Grove Heights Park and Recreation
holiday lighting contest, Light Up the Heights. Entries
will be judged on overall impact, visual appeal,
uniqueness, variety, safety and tidiness. All entries
will be placed on a map so residents can create their
own custom holiday lights tour around town. There
are two categories to enter and the deadline to enter
is Friday, Dec. 9. Judging will take place from Dec. 12
through Dec. 14. Winners will be posed on Dec. 16.

Letters for Santa


Santas elves will have everything kids ages 2 and
up need to write and decorate a letter to Santa at a
special event at the Maplewood Community Center
from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. The elves will even
drop the letters in the mail for the youngsters.
There will be holiday stories and treats as well.
Parents are welcome to stay. Children must be toilet
trained if parents choose to leave.
Cost is $7 per child and pre-registration is required.

time
The historic Ard Godfrey House is hosting an
1850s holiday party on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 12:30 to
3:30 p.m.
Located in Chute Square Park, at University
and Central Avenues in Minneapolis, this house
is the oldest remaining wood frame residence in
Minneapolis. Built in 1849, the house is decorated for
the holidays in the modest style of the era.
There will be refreshments, tours provided by
the Womans Club of Minneapolis guides in period
costumes and free buttons for the kids.
Admission is free and no reservations are necessary.
Off-street parking is available at River Place Ramp or
St. Anthony Falls Public Ramp.

Park
Holidazzle Village returns to Loring Park for
another year of holiday fun.
Running from Nov. 27 to Dec. 20, the free village
will include live music and shops. There will be
Minneapolis-centric vendors providing options for
prepared and packaged food, beverages, unique gift
and craft items.
This years village will include a free ice skating
rink. Musical performances from bands and choirs
will take place as well as visits from Santa. The
Holidazzle ceremonial opening will be on Friday, Nov.
25 at 6:30 p.m.

Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays from 11 a.m.

Como-Harriet
Take a streetcar ride with Santa and warm yourself
by a friendly fire. The historic streetcar is decked out
for the holidays. Rides are offered on Nov. 26, Nov. 27,
Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The ride is about 15 minutes and no advance
ticket or reservation is required. Tickets are $4 per
passenger.

The Village
lights up
Join the Village at Mendota Heights, 750 Main St.,

Santa will swing by for a visit at 4:30 p.m. At 5 p.m.,
there will be the tree lighting ceremony with singing

Breakfast treats, a visit from Santa Claus and fun
activities are on tap for Santas Workshop Party from
6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Maplewood
Community Center. Children bringing an unwrapped
gift for Toys for Tots will receive a special prize.
Cost is $10, and there is a $5 sibling discount for
each additional child. This is a kids-only party, and all
children must be toilet trained.
