Psychological disorders are more common among people in the lower class
Heart disease is far more likely to kill poor people than the affluent.
Most suicides are committed by people in their 30s and 40s.
Per pupil expenditures by American school systems significantly affect student scores on
achievement tests.
More women are graduating from professional schools today than ever before.
The vast majority of women today support sexual equality in the home.
Most elderly persons (65 above) depend on their children for at least some amount of financial
assistance.
Less than 1 percent of welfare recipients are able- bodied employable males. False
There are problems with the identification of the poor (which is the task of the LGUs), the current
means test being not efficient and fraud happening and LGUs not making enough efforts to register
the poor. The cards are also used politically by the LGUs within a patronage system: You vote for
me, I give you the card, whatever your level of income.

But of the 5,981 deaths by suicide in the UK in 2012, more than three quarters (4,590) were males. In the
US, of the 38,000 people who took their own lives in 2010, 79% were men.

The figures in the Philippines are lower than the annual global age-standardized suicide rate of 11.4 per
100,000 populations (15.0 for males and 8.0 for females). The Philippines also has the lowest suicide rate
among ASEAN-member countries.

11. Suicide rate in the Philippines are higher among upper class people than among lower class
people. False
More women than men attempt suicide in the Philippines, but as seen in most other countries case
fatality is higher in males, in part due to males' preference for more violent/lethal methods of
suicide. The male-to-female ratio for suicide (3.3:1) in the Philippines is higher than in China or
India but comparable to that seen Thailand, Japan and New Zealand [2]. The male: female ratio
increased almost two fold between the mid-1980s to 2005. There is no clear explanation for this
change, although it could be partly due to persisting poverty and income inequality, combined with
increasing labour market competitiveness during this period, despite reported economic growth
[29,30]. Other studies have shown that working age men may be more susceptible to suicide in
times of economic difficulty than women, possibly due to higher societal pressures to succeed

12. Most married women work. True
We find that small decreases in the gender wage gap can simultaneously explain the significant
increases in the average hours worked by married women and the relative constancy in the hours
worked by single women and by single and married men.

13. Three out of four legally separated women remarry within three years. False
Half of the men and women who remarried after divorcing
from their first marriage did so in about 3 years.

14. It is more difficult for men to remarry than it is for women. True
According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2001, approximately 3 percent of the men capable of
marriage are widowed compared to 12 percent of the women. These proportions increase
dramatically, however, among those sixty-five years of age and older (14% men versus 45%
women) and even more so among those aged eighty-five and older where 43 percent of the men
are widowers (compared to 80% of the women).

17. Crimes of violence and theft are far more likely to occur among teen agers than among any other
group in our society. True
Adolphe Quetelet (1831/1984)found that the proportion of the population involved in crime tends to
peak in adolescence or early adulthood and then decline with age. In contemporary times, the
FBIs Uniform Crime Report(UCR) arrest data (19351997), particularly the Crime Index (homicide,
robbery, rape, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, auto theft), document the consistency of
the age effect on crime.

20. Suicide is more prevalent in the rich than in the poor. True
While people commit suicide for various reasons, a poor man is more likely to
kill himself for the same reason than a rich man.
The latest data from National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for 2014 shows a
direct relationship between poverty and suicide. While the exhaustive data
segregates suicides according to various causes, the common thread running
through a majority of suicides is poverty.

22. In dating and mate selection opposites attract. False
The similarity-attraction theory argues that people are attracted to others that are similar, rather than
opposite. Perception of similarity can also be found in romantic relationships and to a greater degree than
in friendships. Individuals want a partner with a similar personalty (Barelds and Dijkstra, 2008). It was
found that couples perceive more similarities the longer the relationship goes on (Sprecher, 2013). The
table below shows how the perception increases from the beginning stage to the current stage of the
relationship at the time of this study by Sprecher. The two in the relationship are essentially becoming a
mimic of one another (Karrenmans and Verwijmeren 2008).
