John Zorn

John Zorn (2 de septiembre de 1953, Queens, Nueva

York) compositor y saxofonista estadounidense de origen
judo.

Msico de gran creatividad que ha asimilado multitud de

inuencias y siempre ha sentido predileccin por la escena underground y las propuestas extremas y arriesgadas. Es a su vez dueo de un sello discogrco (Tzadik)
inaugurado en 1995 a travs del cual edita sus discos, los
cuales son ya ms de cien.

Ha trabajado en mltiples proyectos cada cual ms arriesgado. Masada es uno de ellos, un grupo de jazz con inuencias muy variadas, abierto a la improvisacin. Han
editado ms de diez discos de estudio y sus respectivos
directos. Tambin ha trabajado en el mundo de las bandas sonoras; lleva editados 23 discos de sus lmworks
en los cuales recolecta estos temas. Por ltimo, ha grabado discos en solitario y mltiples experimentos musicales
para dibujos animados, programaciones imposibles, sonidos abstractos, piezas de cmara, conciertos para piano
y un sinfn de ideas desarrolladas junto a diversos msicos.

Zorn naci en Nueva York en 1953, aprendi a tocar

otros instrumentos antes de comenzar a tocar el saxofn
y aprender composicin en 1970.

The Bribe (1998)

Tiene un mtodo compositivo por el cual se crean diversas imgenes y momentos musicales que luego son estructurados y ordenados. Es uno de los mximos exponentes
del noise-music, un estilo collage que fusiona el free, sonidos electrnicos, efectos, voces deformadas, etc. Zorn se
introdujo en el jazz llevado por su pasin hacia la msica
contempornea, tras escuchar a gente como John Cage y
Stockhausen, entre otros. En su msica descubrimos tambin inuencias de Ennio Morricone y otros compositores de bandas sonoras, reminiscencias de la cultura juda
e inspiracin en los msicos-compositores Harry Partch,
Charles Ives, etc.
