ABSTRACT
This paper analyses the publication output on New Castle Disease, a major as indexed in CAB Direct Online
database covering the period from 1951-2015. It is observed that a total of 1068 publications were published during the
year 1951 to 2015 as per CAB Direct Online. The average number of publications published per year was 16 papers.
The highest number of papers i.e 140 was published in the year 2007. The spurt in literature output was reported during
1998-2015. USA is the top producing country with 146 papers (13.67%) followed by UK with 84 papers (7.86%). The top
most preferred journals by the scientists is Aspects of Applied Biology with 69 papers (6.46%). The top medium of
communication is journal article with 672 papers (62.92%) followed by conference papers with 145 papers (13.57%).
English was the most predominant language used by the scientists for communication with 984 papers (91.32%).
The prolific author is Castle, L. who contributed 36 papers (3.37%) followed by Castle W.S with 34 papers (3.18%).

INTRODUCTION
Importance of Poultry
Newcastle disease (ND) is a severe poultry disease of high prevalence and great economic importance in
India. It is caused by avian paramyxovirus serotype1 (APMV-1). Newcastle Disease is a single greatest constraint
on the production of village poultry. This paper attempts to analyses publication in the field of Newcastle research
as indexed in CAB Direct Online database covering the period from 1951 to 2015.
Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is to analyze the research output in New Castle disease research, as
reflected in CAB Direct Online database. In particular, the study focuses on the following objectives:

To study the total number of publications output on New Castle Disease Research based on CAB Direct
Online database for the period from 1951 - 2015.

To study the top 10 Countries in New Castle research.

To study the top 10 languages in New Castle research.

To study the top 20 prolific authors in the field of New Castle research.

To study the top 20 journals publishing more research papers on New Castle research.

METHODOLOGY
The CAB Direct Online has been used to retrieve the data for 65 years (1951-2015) by searching the keyword
New Castle in the Title field. The total number of records retrieved by CAB Direct Online database is 1,068.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The study revealed that during the period 1951-2015, a total of 1,068 publications were published on New Castle
Research. The highest number of publications is 140 papers in 2007. The lowest publication is 1 in 1951.
It is very interesting to note that there was not even a single publication listed during the years 1952 to 1970 and 1977.
The average number of publications published per year was 95 and the spurt in literature output was reported during
2000-2012. The year-wise publication growth is furnished in Table 1.

CABI CODE ANALYSIS

CABICODES have been applied to records to indicate the broad subject areas within which they fall and consist
of five characters: two identical alphabetic characters and three digits. CABICODES enable searchers to locate general
subject categories which are not easy to retrieve using descriptors alone and save time and money by helping them to
exclude irrelevant information from their searches. The list of top 10 CABICODES covered by this study are furnished in
Table 2 which clearly indicates the preferred areas of research by the scientists.

CONCLUSIONS
The scientometric study on New castle research based on CAB Direct Online database reveals that USA is the
major producer of scientific research output with 146 publications which is around 13.67% of the global research output on
New castle research. The other interesting fact is that the most prolific author in this field is Castle, L with 36 papers
(3.37%). The study revealed that English is the most predominant language used by the scientists for communication of
New castle research with 987 papers (92.42%) is vital.
