This poem was written In 1855, Ae Sandtana’s final work, the Voisyave tan, is dated 1854, he is tought to have died between T3B4 1nd I555. He therefore gives thelr final dates as 1560 and 1561." The literary works of these two brothers, expecaly those of Rapa, are ‘numerous and quite extraordinary. Sanitana's major works were the Shad thagavotamrta, x mythopocte sory in the syle of a Purtpa, and the Vaisnavadosen, a detailed exegetical commentary onthe Bhdgacate Priya. Ropa's works include several plays and poems and two major works on sicred aesthetics, the Bhakitraramyasindn and the Ujuata ilamané. The Usialanilamayé may have been the last of Ripa’ major works and could possibly have been written when he was in his eighiies ‘Though Ropa's works gained a special poston of authority and respect in the Caitanya tradition, Rapa’s debe fo Sandtana, something to which the himset repeatedly attests, cannot Be overestimated. rom this brief review of the ies of Santana and Rapa a number of obserations, the relevance of which will become more apparent later, can be made.
