INTERNSHIP TRAINING ACTIVITIES
This chapter narrates the activities that the student trainee experienced
during the training. This also includes the observation, interaction, participation,
challenges and related activities during the internship training within 300 hours.
During the first day of her training, they were first introduced to all
departments and then oriented to all IT employee of the company then were
given some brief information on how the company runs and what services they
offer. After that, theyve been oriented on what kind of services to the company
that IT employee needs to accomplish every day. Although shes only an OJT
trainee she was entrusted to see how their system works (POLARIS, NARADA
and Core Fusion).
After a few days, the trainee with her co-trainee was transferred at Card
Operations under the supervision of Mrs. Leah Liza Aba, the Back Office Head.
Mrs. Aba oriented the trainees of the works they would have during the training.
She also encouraged them to ask questions if tasks appeared confusing. She
monitors every transaction made in Nugen and report whenever theres a
problem. She also have done some updating of
The next few weeks of his training, she and her co-trainee were
reassigned again in Data Center Section. The trainee together with Ms. Acabal,
was assigned to sort some CRF (Change Request Form), it is a document
containing a call for an adjustment of a system; it is of great importance in the
change management process. A change request is declarative, i.e. it states what
needs to be accomplished, but leaves out how the change should be carried out.
Ms. Dona Mae Ronquillo, the System Administrator for ATM, POS, VISA and Jr.
Test Analyst explains every CRF that has been filed; she explains thoroughly
how it will effect in the system. In her stay in Data Center, she was taught by Ms.
Ronquillo on how to update and delete an account to let the ATM to transact in
other banks and compressing large files of POLARIS using PuTTY, it is a
terminal emulator application which can act as a client for the SSH, Telnet, rlogin,
and raw TCP computing protocols. She was also a part of the new appearance of
MAXBANK under Mr. Alvin Datinguinoo, also a System Administrator for ATM,
POS, VISA and Jr. Test Analyst. She was tasked to design an ATM for
MAXBANK given a 1 week deadline. With the guide and help of Mr. Datinguinoo
she was praised by her works in terms of Photoshop. The trainee was also
pressured with the works given, since it will be presented to Mr. Ronald Benosa,
the ITG and Head of IT Department. The trainee applies her learnings in school
in doing her report and she was able to accomplish the report and submit it
immediately.
To end up, she had a great experience on his chosen field. The
knowledge and skills she acquired during her training was really a memorable
one. She was very grateful and fortunate that she became part of one of the
prestigious the companies here in the country.
3.1.1 Observation
During her 300 hours of training, the trainee observed the daily activities of
the employees and admires the commitment of the employees to their assigned
tasks. The employees were working well in their respective areas of
responsibility. They showed their own skills and abilities that were really useful
for the company.
The functions and operations of the system were distributed among the
two departments, Data Center and Card Operations. She has noticed also that
every employee has their own designated pc and unique account in security login
purposes. In addition, Mr. Christopher is responsible for the security of employee
user accounts in MAXBANK.
When it comes to the employees, they were all nice and friendly. They
respect all people especially those above their positions and they maximize their
working time as much as they can. They really know what they were doing. If
there were some mistakes in their work, they made sure that proper or
appropriate solutions were applied. And they always say Though slow but is
done correctly.
The employees treated the trainees just like other employees, no matter
what their position is. They reported to office on time and strictly followed the
rules and regulations of the company.
3.1.2 Participation
During the stay of the trainee, she felt awkward every time she was given
tasks since she was timid and afraid to be judged by her skills. But as days
passes by, she learned to ask employees what their specialty theyre in and asks
what problem they usually encounter during their work. Her curiosity let her learn
new things.
The trainee also shows her interest in their work, especially in Photoshop
and developing website. She is always curious about things happening in every
system; she showed her interest to learn ideas. She asks question whenever
shes confused on something that is related to work. Her big participation was
designing ATM for MAXBANK but the enjoyment she felt on her work seems it
lessen the toughness of the given task.
She participated in all of the assigned tasks and work given. She also did
what they were usually doing. The trainee experienced an opportunity to be
familiar with the tasks, activities and programs of the company.
3.1.3 Interaction
At first, the trainee thought it would be easy for her to communicate with
other employees in IT Department since she knew her senior Ms. Ronquillo and
her instructor in Westmead, Mr. Datinguinoo but because it is different from
school to work, she felt timid and nervous. But she kept in mind that interaction
would do her good.
As days passed by, the trainee gained already the confidence to interact
with other people especially with the employees in the department despite the
differences in attitudes, personalities and values. The interaction between the
employee and trainee were getting good because they felt like a family inside the
office and no judgment were made. Employees attitude is not hard to know.
They showed her that shes welcome their office. She learned that getting along
well with other employees and co-trainees make you working relationship great.
As her stay there she didnt notice that her training days passes by quick
and were about to be over. She felt happiness and overwhelmed with all the
learnings related to computer works but also in life.
3.2 Challenges
Challenge is a part of living especially in this competitive world. Whether in
school or in a company it is always present. Working in the company is a
challenge needed to face by the trainee. She boldly dealt such challenges during
her internship training in MAXBANK.
Just like in school, the trainee experienced some problems or difficulties
during his internship training. The trainee found it difficult adjusting to his new
environment, new faces and unfamiliar tasks.
She encountered difficulty in differentiating the Polaris and Narada when it
comes to Change Request Form (CRF). With that, she asks questions to Mr.
Datinguinoo or Ms. Ronquillo when she fails to differentiate Polaris and Narada.
Summing it up, these challenges made the trainee more aggressive and
more confident in everything she did. The trainee understands the environment
of MAXBANK and how they overcome those challenges.
