More than 50 percent of voters are uneducated on politics and dont know who they are

voting for. This can be problematic if we establish mandatory voting because our president will
be elected by unknowledgeable citizens. Mandatory voting forces every eligible citizen to vote.
This is not the best idea because not everyone is able to vote. Countries like Australia, Belgium,
and Argentina already have mandatory voting. These countries have had little to no improvement
of a better representation of the population. There are penalties to not voting like fines and
sometimes even jail sentence. Voting should not be mandatory because there are other options to
get a better representation of the population like removing safe election districts.
Mandatory voting should not be established in the United states because there are better
options of getting more voters. As it states in the article Should Voting Be Mandatory,
Proponents of mandatory voting seem to believe that if we force people to participate, all that
ails American elections will be cured. That misses the real problems. Instead of making elections
mandatory, we should make them more competitive, because nothing increases voter turnout
more than giving voters meaningful, significant choices.(Pildes). This explains how there are
better options of getting more voters. Elections that are more competitive get more votes because
people will vote if they feel they have an impact. There will also be more votes if there is another
major party. people will have more choices. Currently, there are only two major parties that have
a chance at winning. This is because the candidates have huge corporations supporting them.
These parties don't always support beliefs that all the citizens have so another major party would
benefit the voter outcome. Both competitive elections and more choices would benefit the voter
outcome.
Voting should not be mandatory because it is against the rights of the citizens. As it states

in the article The Pros and Cons of Requiring Citizens to Vote on Fairvote.org, Compulsory
voting presents some ethical challenges. Many people argue that it infringes upon individual
liberty by denying people the ability to choose not to vote. While it is true that ballots may
include a none of the above option (though, in practice, typically do not), the act of voting
itself may be seen as endorsing the current politicians and political system, an endorsement
that some citizens may not want to make. (Jaffe-Geffner). This illustrates how requiring every
eligible citizen to vote is against the constitution. It says that citizens have the right to vote and
the right to not vote. Forcing everyone to vote is not right because they might not have an
opinion. Mandatory voting is unconstitutional and breaks the defined right citizens have.
Some would say America should have mandatory voting because it would get a better
representation of the population. It says, Because a majority of the voters are turning out to cast
ballots, the formation of the government can be a more accurate reflection of what the population
of any nation wants.(Apecsecmnadmin). This illustrates how more votes would equal a more
accurate representation of the population. The government would be based on the whole
population's ideals. This would mean the country would run better and the way everyone wants it
to run. Mandatory voting would greatly increase the accuracy of the election.
Mandatory voting would not get a better representation of the population. It says The
median voter is incompetent at politics. The citizens who abstain are, on average, even more
incompetent. If we force everyone to vote, the electorate will become even more irrational and
misinformed. The result: not only will the worse candidate on the ballot get a better shot at
winning, but the candidates who make it on the ballot in the first place will be worse.
(Brennan). This explains that if voting was mandatory it would force people to vote even if they

don't know who they are voting for. This would make the election less accurate. Voting should
not be mandatory because it wouldnt benefit the accuracy of the election.
In the final analysis, Mandatory voting should not be established in the United States
because there are better options of getting more voters like adding a third party. Mandatory
voting is against the constitution so it should not be established. Some people say it would get a
better representation of the population but this is incorrect because a lot of voters are uneducated
in politics and they don't vote because they dont know who they are voting for. Thus, mandatory
voting should not be established in the United States. Its your right to vote.
