What is diversity?

As per the Chancellors Committee On Diversity- Diversity is basically the array


of knowledge which has taken its birth from the riots among the cultures, physical
and mental abilities, age, caste, creed, religion, sex, the sexual courses, race, etc.
Therefore Diversity is a very broader concept and so when people talk and imagine
about diversity, their major focus lies on the race, the caste, creed, the gender and
the ethnicity of the person. So diversity can also be defined as the human attributes
that vary from our attributes and also the outside groups attributes where we
belong to, however it hails in every individual and group.
Diversity in the workplace is to fetch together different individuals that carry
varied religions, caste, creed, different ethnic backgrounds, culture, religion,
belong to different age groups, etc to a dynamic, unified and fruitful entity.
Innovations in technology and communication, for example internet, mobile
phones, wifi, etc. have made the world a global arena that is very connectible. And
hence in order to sustain in this connectible and competitive market place, an
organization needs to get these diversities in their workplace and manage them
effectively and also utilize them to their optimum. They should make the concept
of managing diversity in the workplace as a compulsory norm that needs to be
followed.
And so it is vital to have the knowledge as to how these different elements affect
the inspirations, enthusiasms, the performances and success of ours and also that of
others. There are many different configurations and customs that have put
obstacles and barriers on some of the elements of diversity and these barriers
should be checked and removed.
Evidently, the concept of diversity also covers a varied assortment of other
problems like the parental status of the parental status of the person, family line,
his past work experience, educational qualifications, skills his geographical
locality, etc. And managing these varied diversities at a single workplace is just not
restricted to the compulsory norm or legal policy that an organization has to follow
rather it is also a way of promoting a society and its ease with the difference that it
carries. And therefore it is evident that diversity in a workplace endows the
organization with massive and remarkable benefits like innovative thinking, an
improved morale of the employees and foremen, a coordinated and effective
teamwork, a very healthy environment in the organization blossoming with the
mutual understanding, trust and respect amongst the whole organization.
