In this lesson plan my preschoolers will be doing yoga poses. Each student will go
up to the smart board and draw an animal, shape, or letter of their choice and then
the students will do the pose of that animal, shape, or letter. For example if the
student draws a dog we will do a dog yoga pose.

What preparation is needed?

To prepare for this lesson plan we will set out the yoga mats and change into our workout
clothes, and do a few stretches before starting our yoga session.
What materials will be used?
Smart board, yoga mats for each student, and workout clothes.
How will the learning environment be set up?
The classroom will be set up to give students a lot of space to do yoga. Chairs will be
stacked and tables will be moved to the edges of the classroom to give students the whole
middle of the room in front of the smart board.

Instructional Procedures:
Day 1:
First 10 minutes: Introductory activity- Students will change into their workout clothes and lay out
their yoga mats and stretch
20 minutes: I will explain to the students that they need to choose an animal and draw it on the

smart board. Then after they draw their animal I will stand up front and present to them how to
do the pose for that animal or shape and they will all copy after me.
Day 2:
First 10 minutes students will change into their workout clothes and lay out their yoga mats and
stretch
20 minutes: Today students will pick a shape to draw on the smart board and I will stand up front
and present the pose for that shape. If it is a shape that will require 2 students for example a
square, they may choose a partner to make a square with.
Day 3:
First 10 minutes: Students will change into their workout clothes and lay out their yoga mats and
stretch
20 minutes: Today the students will choose a letter of the alphabet to draw up on the smart
board and use those letters to create the shape of the yoga pose. If the letter is a shape that
involves two or more students to make it they may choose partners.
Day 4:
First 10 minutes: Students will change into their workout clothes and lay out their yoga mats and
stretch.
20 minutes: Today students will choose an outside object such as a flower, star, or rainbow to
draw on the smart board to create the shape of a yoga pose.
Day 5:
First 10 minutes: Students will change into their workout clothes and lay out their yoga mats and
stretch.
20 minutes: Today students will choose ABCs of objects to draw on the smart board and create a
yoga pose based off of the drawing. (Such as B- butterfly, C-cat)

This is a blog about creative learning for young children. This article explains why using yoga in
the preschool classroom has a positive outcome for the students. This blog talks about all the
different things yoga helps children in school. There is a wide variety of ways to use yoga and
how it is beneficial.
Differentiated Instructional Support: Describe how instruction can be differentiated
(changed or altered) to meet the needs of gifted or accelerated students: The students who are
doing really well with drawing our theme for our yoga pose of the day could be challenged by the
teacher saying draw something that begins with w and the student has to think about words
that begin with W to draw rather than just drawing whatever they want. Or maybe have The
student come up with a new theme for yoga poses.
Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling
with the material: If the students are struggling with coming up with something to draw the
teacher can draw it on the smart board and ask the student what it is. Or spell something and
have them sound it out and ask what it the word is then has them do the yoga pose.
