WATER

Daily water losses

Water leaves our bodies through skin and in breath all the time, amounting to about
700ml each day. We lose another 100ml through faeces, about 1.5 litres as urine and
200ml in normal perspiration. So, even living and breathing in a temperate climate
requires about 2.5 litres a day. Exercise and rises in temperature increases
perspiration, loss of water and hence fluid requirements. During sickness and
diarrhoea, losses of water will also increase considerably.

The effects of dehydration

Dehydration can cause headaches, tiredness and loss of concentration. It is a problem
particularly associated with aging, as older adults are less sensitive to mild
dehydration, they drink less and take longer to re-hydrate. A deterioration of mental
performance can also occur in mildly dehydrated younger adults. Children lose more
water in perspiration in trying to keep cool so it is important to make sure they drink
enough in hot weather.
LIBRARY
In this 2001 LSTA-funded report, Drs. Donna Celano and Susan Neuman describe the ways in which
public libraries foster literacy skills throughsummer reading programs and preschool programs.

Recent literature they studied showed:

Libraries continue to play a major role in fostering literacy, especially among those

most needing assistance in developing literacy skills (e.g., preschool and elementary school
children).
Children who have been exposed to library preschool programs showed a greater

number of emergent literacy behaviors and pre-reading skills than those in a control group.
Children who participate in summer reading programs benefit from the many literacy-

related activities offered, aiding significantly in literacy development.

Public Library preschool and summer reading programs encourage children to spend a
significant amount of time with books.
The research they conducted of summer reading programs in Philadelphia studied four groups of
children with low reading scores who came from low-income working families. Two groups attended
summer reading programs; the other two attended day camps. After a few weeks in the
programs, the children in the summer reading program read significantly better than those who
attended camp. This study also highlighted the following benefits:

Programs encouraged children to spend increased time with books.

Public Library reading programs played an important role in the reading achievement

of children who lack access to books and other reading materials in their daily lives.
Literacy-related activities and eventsenriched reading experiences, encouraging

children to read themselves, hear stories read aloud and write about what they'd read.
Public Library programs encouraged parents to become involved in children's reading.

Importance of Library
Library is a great blessing. Library is said to be the storehouse of culture. The various books by
the different authors and poets form a library. If a man is to be known by the company he keeps, a
society is to be known by the number of good libraries it has. Mans craving for knowledge is eternal.
He wants to know more; he wants to enjoy more. But he cannot always move about for various
reasons.
Library preserves various types of old and new books. There are also periodicals and daily
papers to meet the demands of the people.
In all ages, libraries have been considered the best medium of public instructions. There are
different types of libraries, such as private library is only for private use whereas public library is free
to all public.
An academic library is an essential part of an educational institution. This type of library
collects text books and reference books on different subjects to meet the needs of the students and
teachers.
It plays an important role in schools, colleges and universities. The books are issued to the
students in term of weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. Generally a reading-room is attached to this
library for reading. In a library we get books on different subjects. There are books on literature, on
history, hygiene, science and arts.
So Carlyle has rightly said, that a true university of our days is nothing but a collection of books.
A library is essential to the cultural progress of a country. It helps the country to fight illiteracy. It
is an aid to research work and teaching. It satisfies a thirst for education. It is a boon to the poor and
the middle class people. A civilized man cannot do without the library.
THE BENEFITS OF DRINKING WATER
Water is a natural gift given to us by nature. Drinking water regularly in daily basis is the
best way we can give to our bodies. Some of us drink it when we are thirsty and some of
us drink it when we are fully hydrated. The surprising thing is that there are some
people who dont like drinking water at all. In facts, we need water to keep our health no

matter who we are. The importance of drinking water for our bodies is paramount to our
health, because it makes up to 70 percent of our bodies weight. There are four fulfilling
benefits of drinking water to our bodies, such as it can speed up our metabolisms, make
our skins healthier, lose our weight, and stay alert.
The first benefit of drinking water is it can speed up our metabolisms. Increased
hydration levels have an effect of increasing the blood volume. The increased of blood
volume helps the transport of oxygen to our bodies cells. It also facilitates the transport
of waste out the cells. If our cells are hydrated properly, our metabolisms will be
optimal. The more water we consume, the more efficient our cells can work.
The next benefit is it can make our skins healthier. Drinking water can help our skins
healthier, refreshed, and radiant for sure. Our skins will look unhealthy when the toxins
are remained in our bodies. The role of water here is to flush the toxins away out of our
bodies. Our skins need a lot of water to stay hydrated and supple, so we have to make
sure that we drink enough water each day. We need to drink water for about 8 10
glasses in a day in order to keep our skins healthy.
The third benefit is water can lose our weight. When we are in a diet or fitness program,
there is a suggestion that we have to drink a lot of water. Water can help us to suppress
our appetite, so we dont eat as much as usual. Drinking water also helps our bodies to
burn the fat in our bodies, and so our weight can be reduced. Some people say that
drinking 15 liters of water in a day can help in losing our weight drastically. By the loss
of our fat in our bodies, we can be healthier because some diseases caused by the fat
will be avoided.
Finally, water can make us stay alert and focus. When we are properly hydrated, the
circulation in our body will be good. By the fact, our brains are made up 85 percent of
water, so we have to stay hydrated to help our brains. If our brains are properly
hydrated, it will keep the mood fresh and active. People who drink less water often feel
bored and less enthusiastic. Meanwhile, people who drink more water are really
energetic and full of zeal. It also helps our bodies in relieving the fatigue of the body.
In conclusion, drinking water is a very important thing to our bodies health. Not only
human, but also all of the organisms need water to survive. The importance of drinking
water for our bodies is paramount to our health, because it makes up to 70 percent of
our bodies weight. There are four fulfilling benefits of drinking water to our bodies, such
as it can speed up our metabolisms, make our skins healthier, lose our weight, and stay
alert. So, we have to consume water as much as we can to keep our body in a good
condition.
